Gunkle, just bring some safety scissors to the game if you really need to cut straws and tags.
No one needs a knife at a hockey game

Should all the cooks undergo felony background checks? Should the staff at the Fan Attic have to receive specialized training and licensing to have a pair of five inch scissors in their presence?
What I do, is my choice. If I cut the tags off of a new jersey then great. Shorten a straw for my kid, or cut off a hang nail ... it is my own bloody business.

Maybe not the best word to use when you're a guy who brings a deadly weapon to a hockey game.
It's amazing what some people think is okay based on some perverse sense of "liberty".

Bingo.
When you can pick up tickets for $5-10 bucks a piece, that is what you get. Even my 2nd level tickets I have been selling for $20 a piece. We have a bunch of PL tickets at work, and you should see some of the Delta Bravos that have been picking them up when we list them on Kijiji.
It seems like a bad stereotype, that cheap tickets = bad customers, but unfortunately it's a reality.

Except it's a private business who can refuse entry and frankly make up any rules they want to (more or less). They are not "big brother" they are a corporation (I think technically an LP).

There are lots of plastic bottles of Captain Morgans under the seats in the Sports Chek Zone, after the games.

I have taken part in leaving those there in the past. But know I am mature, I am all for this approach.

Yeah I assume they're trying to cut down on outside booze.
As an aside, anyone remember when they used to sell those cartons of Coke at the Stamps games? Shown on the left:
I wish they would bring those back, they were the perfect size to mix a mickey with!

Are we seriously delving into the territory of calling a swiss army knife a deadly weapon?

I've seen them doing this at a bunch of games this season. One time I was waiting at the door for my friend to meet me so I watched them and chatted with them, they were really only looking for alcohol. They didn't care when a lady had food in her purse and when I peered into their garbage can as I went in it was all alcohol (so tempting to reach in!)

They've been doing this at Stamps games forever, and for the same reason. I remember my parent's getting caught once in the early 80s and having to dump out a thermos of hot chocolate and bailey's.

There's a case where the guards chose the right person to check for weapons.

I went to a game earlier this season and they didn't even do a half-assed pat down when I went in. Was a little surprised by that.

This is just more of the police state crap that is going on globally. The fear of everything is getting to be quite sad really.

I have carried a pocket knife for 25 years. It is in my wallet, keys, phone, pocket knife check when I leave home. Use it all the time to open mail, packages boxes, etc.
Never have I ever even considered using it as a weapon. You'd stand to probably cut your fingers and injure yourself worse, if you tried to stab someone with it.
