'Paying to park at the University' is one option. An unrealistic one since I was a student. Obviously well out of biking and walking range so neither is a real option.
So I can either get up an hour earlier and stand around in the cold waiting for the bus or completely legally park for free in front of someone's house. Pretty easy to see what any sane person would do.

Well you couldn't think of more than two options and I gave you 14. IDK what else to tell you. I did every single one of those options when I went there, with the exception of transit.
I think parking in front of somebody's house is a dick move. Your parking spot is your problem, not theirs. I know people are allowed to do it, I just don't like when they do.

I can see you point, if and only if, the house does not have a driveway or back alley garage parking, as you see in older communities.
Otherwise, I think the road (which you don't own) is fair game.

Fyp.
Really, you gave 5 options, 3 of which are wholly dependant on who you know or how far you live.
Looking down on people for parking in front of a house is stupid. I know that when I was a student I couldn't afford parking, and sorry, I'm not going to pay for a bus pass along with car insurance. I parked in front of houses like a demon, so be it.
Even the notion that a student could afford parking at some of the places you mentioned is hilarious. Not everyone has cash pouring out of their pockets to go paying that sort of scratch.

Bus ain't free, and IIRC Calgary Transit is looking at cutting discount fairs to students (not sure if U OF C qualified), seniors, etc.

People who get mad when you park on the public road in front of their house always make me laugh, love seeing their sneers and glares and knowing that a portion of their day is ruined because they can't understand that anyone can park on the street.

Why? A full-time students' school hours and normal working folks' working hours coordinate pretty well. If it didn't, then the student couldn't park in front of that house anyway (** most cases).

The guy who would idle his truck for 30 minutes every morning outside my place is the only time I've been against people parking in front of my place. Otherwise...meh, it's public property. I can't control it.

Costs extra but it's pretty cheap. Can't remember the exact amount. It's basically a sticker they put on your id card

I thought that was the whole point. They charge less per student but charge every student whether they use transit or not.

Fawk man, have you learned nothing here. We live in a society with black and white rules. If you are not on the correct side of the line you are doing it wrong, and deserve public scorn. Conversely, if you are doing something that does not break the rules, then, you may carry on, good sir. Now if you are a person who is describing someones completely legal, law abiding, non rule breaking actions as a dick move., then you sir, are grinding someones gears, right now.

I like the people a block or so away who put down those concrete sidewalk bricks on their lawn so they could park two more cars there. Two in the garage, two in the driveway and two more on the lawn. There must be a dozen people living in a 1600 square foot house.

The people across the street from me, dug out half their front lawn and it is now part of their driveway.

I don't have a problem with people parking in front of my house. What annoys me is when they feel the need to pull onto the side walk to park because they are incapable of parallel parking or simply just pulling up parallel to the curb. The other guys that annoy me are the ones that use the sidewalk as extra turning radius when they pull u turns in front of my house to park on the opposite side of the road.
This RGMG after a snow fall and now I have hard crusty tire tracks to shovel instead of fluffy snow. Honestly sometimes I feel like taking a swing at the offenders mirror with my snow shovel but I usually just resort to grumbling to myself while I wish death upon the,
