What a dick. He didn't shoot the moose when it charged at him, he shot it when it retreated. I hope he gets charged. Rather than wait for the thing to get bored and leave, he forces a confrontation.

I wish it was a cougar, and he got ambushed.
You could see the moose getting agitated as he approached, don't need to be the moose whisperer to see that.
VERY avoidable situation. The fact that a meat head like this can carry a firearm at all, is concerning.

If that is in Canada can you even carry a handgun like that?
The guys a freakin' tool, driving towards the poor animal. Further why did he not put the beast out of its misery?

Absolutely not.
That's why a few of us have mentioned that if this is in Canada, that guy could be in big trouble.
Transportation of a restricted firearm (in this case a handgun), has quite a few requirements, including, being unloaded, locked up, with ammunition stored seperately, and a transportation permit to either take it to a designated range, or gunsmith.
Pretty clear none of those rules were followed in this case, so if this is in Canada, the guy is in BIG trouble.
Of course if it's in any of the states with EXTREMELY lax carry laws, then the guy wasn't breaking any laws before he shot the moose.

No.
In order to transport a handgun (restricted), you need an authorization to transport. So far, chief firearms officers have only really allowed transport to and from gun ranges, shows, sales and gunsmiths. You cannot hunt with handguns.
If you have your handgun in the woods like that it is a felony.

I was most disturbed seeing the moose slowly move around in was was surely a slow death.
I feel like he was doing everything right with the noise etc until we crept up on it again. What did he think was going to happen?
Stupid question which was asked and I couldnt tell if it was a sarcastic answer....do all snowmobiles have reverse?

Exactly, carry some bear mace with you too. That would of worked better than shooting the animal.
Poor thing is going to suffer and the meat is going to go to waste. What a dbag

Alaska has no permit system. If you can legally own a firearm you can carry one. In fact on the tv show "Alaska state troopers" they bring that up that so many carry because of the wildlife. But even then they would have busted this dudes ass

No, not all snowmobiles have reverse. I believe most of the new models from the past few years have reverse but a lot of older models don't.
I'm no snowmobile expert so anyone who knows more is more than welcome to correct me

Moose probably just wanted to know if he'd been to the Stampede yet.

Usually moose are a lot more aggressive than that even. Lots of warning signs before the initial charge and the guy goes closer.
What an idiot. Even if he didn't break any laws he should still be shot, pissed on and dragged behind his own sled.

I've run into moose while mountain biking 6 times. I've never had an issue. I once came down a hill, around a corner and bullwinkle was standing right there. I shat my pants, crashed at his feet, he bolted about 10 feet, then stopped and looked at me. I got up and raced away and didn't feel any of the pain until I got to my truck.
I've also ran into some while back packing. Never had an issue there either. Usually they're more scared and just run away. I can see if it was rutting season, they'd be more aggressive but that's in the fall.
This guy is an idiot.

I highly doubt this was in Canada, severe punishment for carrying around a handgun. But a real idiot none the less, any normal person would just sit and watch the moose as along as you could see it, isn't that what the outdoors is all about? what a ######.

I noticed the moose tossed some popcorn. Self-defense for sure.
