I think the zoo is doing the daily penguin walks. I have always wanted to go and see that.

Try the luge or bobsleigh at COP. Rent some equipment and go x-country skiing at Confederation Park. I noticed they were just grooming some tracks yesterday. Or grab some skates and skate around Olympic Plaza.

You can always check out whatever concerts or events are going on during that time.

So 3 days I would

Go to Banff day 1, rent cross country skis or snowshoes depending on ability. If snow shoeing go for a snow shoe on the lake at lake louise, then spend some time walking around the town of banff

Day 2 Calgary Zoo / Glenbow museum. Hit the zoo in the morning, penguin walk is at 10:00, its okay not a must see as you can see the penguins in the building at anytime. Eat Lunch at blue star diner in bridge land. Hit the glen bow in the afternoon.

Day 3 Hit the peace bridge and Prince's Island, ideally walk the circuit, Maybe hit Calgary Tower for Lunch, then head to 17th ave for people watching, and 12 ave for the few Galleries.

thank you everyone for your help - so far i like the following:

visit glenbow museum

meal somewhere in chinatown

fish and chips at trawlers restaurant

visit the military museum

meal at CN tower

check out the dinosaurs in drumheller

then maybe hit banff or lake louise

we did the zoo last year so we will probably skip that this year

my list is getting pretty good - any more ideas would be appreciated

Don't come to a city that is 1000km away from the coast and get fish and chips. Go for a steak...

Smugglers is really good. Get the salad bar as well and have the steak soup. It is amazing.

Skip the CN Tower it will eat up all your time.....

You can also take them skating at the Oval, I think there is a public bobsled type activity at COP.

Heritage Park is cool depending where your friend is from.

Finally, I can't beleive there have been no suggestion to "DO" Fotze's mom when you are in town....

Super serious.

I have never been disappointed with a steak there and the soup is always spot on.
