I tailgated him as long as I could.
I shouldn't have said eventually, I should've said immediately, so I had to alter my, peaceful, cruise controlled, no one else around, drive.

Three words were capitalized for emphasis and the punctuation was perfect. Your capitalization of "Random" is a way worse affront to my sensibilities.

Also it wasn't a rant about wanting to 'teach' someone anything. I don't really care if they tailgate others, I just don't want to be tailgated myself.

But thanks for the supposed insult.

Perhaps you could have just moved to the right and passed him as he was turning? You did say there was another lane.

Sorry, I am still not seeing how he screwed you around.

The guy sped up and pulled in front of him in the left lane, and had to slow down to take the left turn exit. Duffman is saying the guy should have pulled into the left lane behind him instead of speeding up to get infront of him.

Oh I understand what he is saying, I just don't see it as screwing him around.

In fact as 4X4 posted, I would suggest it was Duffman (BTW, great user name) that screwed the other driver, by not travelling in the right lane.

I agree that it was a dick move on his part. I also agree that you should have been in the right lane because you were not passing anyone.

Regardless it doesn't excuse that guy of doing what he did.

Once Duffman was passed on the inside I think that should be a clear sign that he is in the wrong lane and he should promptly pull over to the right. If he had done so then the other driver could have changed lanes left and slowed down for his turn without inconveniencing anyone.

The word "Random" doesn't mean what you think it means.

For tailgating I think the best thing to do is to slow down and allow room to pass.
I don't vare how right you are and how wrong the other person is if you have to brake and get rear ended it will still suck for you.

I think the juvenile (inexperienced) attitude is to answer that if he hits you it is his fault which is technically correct but it could still ruin your day or life. By slowing down you reduce the damage in case of an accident and prevent you from being pushed into the car in front of you. You also give yourself more time to react if something happens in front of you.
Tapping your brakes works if the person behind you is just not paying attention but if that fails I think the best move is to slow down a bit and leave more room in front of you.

If Duffman was in the correct lane of travel, then this "dick move" never happens.

Interesting thought. I believe it isn't like how we talk about Deerfoot being under the province's control, and Glenmore under the city's; the jurisdiction mentioned refers to the laws and rules of the road. For example, a city cannot put a merge symbol on a red octagon sign; as the province has jurisdiction over what signs are allowed.

Hmmmm, NAH.

Duffman was just fine. He was at or faster that the vehicle on his left. There is no scenario where it's appropriate for the vehicle on his left to have sped up, gone in front of him, and immediately slowed down on an empty stretch of rural highway. It's ignorant.

"Keep right except to pass" is not a law in Alberta (nor one in Canada, I believe). There is only "Slower vehicles keep right" which suggests that vehicles moving slower than the speed limit or natural flow of traffic should stay to the right. Duffman was neither of these things.

All of you folks need to understand: "keep right except to pass" is not a rule nor is it required unless clearly marked on Alberta roads. Duffman did absolutely nothing wrong.

I agreed that he should be in the right lane. That doesn't mean the guy should pull the move he did, he could have just pulled in behind Duffman and exited without speeding up and pulling in front.
