For me it depends on who and why. If it's some lunatic that's pissed off that I'm not moving over, like described a bunch of posts back, I wont move over if it's going to force me to slow down 30kph, especially if there's someone in front of me. So back the F off. But even I have made mistakes and spaced out a bit, and realized I was slowing. Times like those I wish I had a way to say sorry to the guy I just inconvenienced (besides the teeth clench, palms up).

If it's some dumb broad that's riding my ass, and talking on the phone, it makes me angry. She's too stupid to realize that she's going to injure my neck if I have to hit the brakes. Makes me want to plant my head against the headrest and lock 'em up.

Pretty much this, I rarely get tailgated it seems. If I'm driving and see someone coming up behind me going faster, I move over before they even have a chance to tailgate.

What I do hate is when people come up to you too fast when you're stopped, then stop without leaving any room between you. Especially in the winter.

I have noticed an increase from year to year in the amount of drivers incapable of seeing what is happening on the road anywhere ahead of the car directly in front of them. When I see someone tailgating another car, and there is a row of five cars ahead of them going an identical speed, I begin to wonder what the tailgater is hoping to accomplish.

Inevitably, we all end up at a red light together at some point. Tailgating usually accomplishes absolutely nothing. Very little respect for people that do it without reason, which is 90% of the time.

For the record, I've done it ONCE. BUT, I would do it again if I had to. I'm not going to be bullied while driving and doing nothing wrong.

I used to commute 150 km per day and I would have someone tailgate me at least once a day. Depending on where you drive, it is far too common.

So I was driving up a 2 lane highway the other night. As it turned out there was only me in the left lane and a guy about 8 or 10 car lengths behind me in the right lane. We were going the same speed, and I thought there's no point in getting in front of him, and no one else was around, so I just stayed in the left lane. About close to 5 minutes later he steps on the gas, passes me, pulls in front of me and then eventually has to go slower so he can take a turnoff on the left. He could've just drove the same speed, pulled in behind me and taken his turnoff.
I tailgated him as long as I could.

Keep left except to pass. Regardless of speed if you are not passing someone get out of the left lane. There are no exceptions.

How is it a teenage mentality when she tries to get the other driver from tail gaiting? I've been rear ended once in the past because some jackass thought it was okay to follow close. They are a danger to other drivers and if what she did get's them to back off, then so be it.

Before I made the decision to stay in the left lane, I thought to myself, if I were that guy, would I rather have me where I was, or 8 car lengths in front of me in the same lane. To me that's like standing beside someone at the urinals, when I don't have to.
Also, this is on a rural road, where wildlife like deer etc is a very real danger. I'd prefer to be in different lanes, if I was behind someone.

This is a bit nitpicky, but I'll say it anyway. The rules (and courtesys) of the road regarding the left lane are that you pass the car(s), then move to the right. By doing that, you're indicating to all other drivers that you're now going your desired speed. This allows other drivers to pass you and go ahead of you, and assume that you don't care. By staying in the left lane (this is where it's really nitpicky, go ahead and roll your eyes), you're disregarding the way things are supposed to work, and the person in the right lane (albeit 10 car lengths back) has no idea why you're not moving over to the right lane like you should be.

TBQH, for a driving geek like me, it's annoying to watch a person "drive wrong". You're not doing any courtesy by not moving over, you're kind of telling other drivers that you don't understand how to drive. Now, having read plenty of your posts, I know you're not a stupid person, so don't take that the wrong way. Just saying that in this instance, what you thought was courteous could have easily been construed as clueless. Sorta like when you're exiting Macs, and there's someone walking toward you down the sidewalk, so you hold the door open, and then they walk around you and the door and continue down the sidewalk.

I don't know for the sure what the law is but I think it's important to note the part in bold at the beginning of quoted section

Urban streets in Calgary (and most towns and cities) will not be under Alberta Transportation jurisdiction but that of the City. Maybe the same applies, I'm not sure, I'd be curious to see if a cop would pull you over for it.

SOLID LINE MARKINGS:

Solid lines mean that crossing the solid line
to pass or change lanes is not permitted.
