Pretty low chance we'd make it up to 25th. We'd need at minimum a 12-8-4 record, and more likely something even better than that.
I'm thinking we'll finish about 9-15 and in 27th place.

The realist in me wants us to lose every game and have a good chance at Ekblad. Mostly because Edmonton doesn't deserve him and screw them. But deep in my heart I want them to win every game and have something strong to build on for next season. I think something like 10W-14L is realistic.

At this point we'd need to lose every single game to even entertain the thought of finishing 30th. Sportsclubstats gives us a 0% chance to do it. The Flames will finish in the 26th-29th range, depending on how hard the Islanders tank now.

It's gonna be pretty tough to win games once/assuming guys like Cammy and Stempniak are shipped out. Young energy can only get you so far, exciting as it may be. That said, I look forward to the young guys trying to earn their next contract or roster spot on the team next year. And the idea of possibly seeing Gaudreau throw on a Flames or Heat sweater is tantalizing. I'll predict 9 more wins and a 27th place finish just for fun.

We're slotting into the 5th draft spot regardless of how poorly or well we play. The gap between 26th and 25th is significant, and the other 4 teams in the draft hunt are just total trash.
It's going to end up:
Calgary
Panthers
Oilers
Islanders
Sabres.

We end up 28th overall, as the wheels fall off (just like they have before). We finish the season 7-14-3. Oilers and Buffalo finish below us - leaving us Sam Bennett as the 3rd overall pick.
Deadline trades:
To Anaheim: Cammalleri (50% cap), O'Brien (50% cap)
To Calgary: Ottawa's 1st round pick
To Phoenix: Stempniak
To Calgary: 2nd round pick in '15

I think the Flames move Cammy, Stempniak and Butler at the deadline.
Cammy to the Ducks for DSP+Ducks 1st
Stempniak somewhere for a 3rd
Butler somewhere for a 2nd
Flames finish the season going 9-11-4 and finish 27th just outside the top 3. Fans get excited by the strong play of callups Reinhart, Granlund, and Ortio.

You guys are both going to be pretty disappointed with the return for Cammy.

The bottom 5 teams look to be solidified, unless something drastic happens.
Buffalo looks poised for 30th place, because they are 9 points back from 29th. I know they have 3 games in hand but even with 2 wins they will be 5 points back.
Edmonton has a ton of home games down the stretch. I think they will pass the Flames in the standings.
NY Islanders look perfectly setup for a trade deadline sell off and a series of losses without their best player.
I think the Flames will likely finish 27th or 28th.
26. Edmonton
27. Calgary
28. Florida
29. NY Islanders
30. Buffalo

With florida and the islanders getting injuries to key players this olympics i think we are pretty much a lock for 26th overall. I see the standings as:
Flames
Edmonton
Florida
Islanders
Buffalo
We will probably go something like 10-14 with wins against Florida, Leafs,Winnipeg, Oilersx2, Islanders, Buffalo. Theres also a lot of middling teams we could squeak out some wins against. If Edmonton ends up in 4th you'd have to think they would either trade it or take Draisatl so they can finally trade Gagner leaving us with Dal Colle most likely.

I don't actually know how the draft lottery works (how many spots you can advance) but I'd love to see them go 24-0 and then win the draft. PS: I'm still drunk from Sunday morning.

So what I want to know. The Flames have 24 games left, what's their record over the 24 games? Where do we finish in the overall standings and in the West?
Who leaves the Flames by the deadline which I believe is next week?
do we get anything exciting coming back?
Vancouver still goes downhill, Edmonton barely doesn't finish ahead of us.
Hope Monahan can go 25-15 for 40 points by the end of the season! At least hit 20.
Oh and do we finish ahead of the Oilers?
And finally do the Canucks make a late seasons surge to get into the playoffs?
|
I think we go along the lines of 10-11-3 (32-40-10), ending up with 74 points, finding a 3 or 4 game win streak somewhere in the 10 wins . We still play our hearts out and still lose by only 1 or 2 goals, because Hartley is a great coach.
I think we get slotted 4th, creating controversy for Burke on getting in the top 3. Would love to have Ekblad, Reinhart, or Bennett, (wouldn't mind Draisaitl though either).
1. Sabres
2. Islanders
3. Oilers
4. Flames
Honestly think Stempniak is staying because our RW depth isn't so great. Cammy is leaving for a high second rounder and another prospect? Really hope someone overpays for a first rounder. I think this guy needs a change of scenery. Would be funny if he came back and resigned after playing half a season with some other team.
I wouldn't say anything exciting is coming back, except we are making room for our youngsters to come in. Perhaps a veteran defenseman may come in, can eat some of the cap room that Cammy leaves with.
Vancouver still goes downhill, Edmonton barely does not go past us, slotting in third.
Monahan hopefully gets 25-15, ending with 40 points.

Reason: Accidentally put my Monahan comment in Captain Crunch's post.
