When they had Chelios, Leetch and an emerging Rafalski they didn't have forwards. Now they have a pretty good group of forwards but after Suter and perhaps McDOnagh the blueline is very weak.
I knew it would be difficult for the US to get motivated but to flat out not really try is pretty embarrassing. Full marks to Finland for being ready to play. Americans were exposed in the last two games as being very top heavy (and not just Phil Kessel). Canada, Finland and Sweden are still deeper teams than the US.

One of Team USA's finer moments of poor sportsmanship in 1998. After embarrassing themselves in the tournament, several players ransacked their rooms in frustration.

Nobody in hockey fights for a bronze medal like the Fins. They really do understand the team concept in these tournaments as this will be their 4th medal in 5 Olympics with NHL players. More than any other country. They are the San Jose Sharks of Olympic hockey. Consistently good, but can't quite win the big one.

The US did not score 1 even strength goal in their three games against the best teams (Russia, Canada, Finland). When the competition level rose they had no answers at all.
