When the media does a story about the smoking bylaw they go out and video people committing that offense. Sometimes the image is not so great, sometimes it is pretty clear. Those images are then broadcast and are also available on their website.

How come no-one raises a stink about that public humiliation?

On the flip side, if you know something like this could potentially ruin your life is it worth it? Is it worth it to take your dog into an area you know you're not supposed to and let them defecate on a grave with knowledge it could potentially ruin your life?

Distracted driving can, and does, kill. I'd say it's a far bigger problem both in frequency and severity than this.

Oh jesus. Actively endangering people is not the same as a dog ####ting on a goddamn burial plot. IT'S GRASS. There's more life in the turd than there is in the damn box that's buried ten feet below.

Couple it with the fact that the dog owner did, in fact, clean up after her dog, and this is a complete non-issue.

You can potentially ruin someone life over something like this. When you think about it that way, is this really worth ruining someones life over?
I highly doubt anyone's life would be ruined over that. At the most she might face some harsh remarks from friends or coworkers who thought she was being disrespectful. Others might say it was an over reaction and tell her to ignore the comments.

Sorry, my bad I didn't realize those people had actually killed someone. If it's too much of a stretch then replace Distracted Driving with the Smoking Bylaw, people smoking too close to entrances.

Really? You really think someone's life could be ruined over this?

Maybe we have to clarify what "ruined" means.

To me "ruined life" means stuff like losing your job, being ostracized from your friends and family, getting a divorce, maybe even going into hiding or moving away... You know, actual terrible things happening.

The worst consequences of this s(h)ituation will probably be listening to her friends say stuff like "I saw you on twitter, letting Princess take a dump at the cemetery!Ha ha ha!"

Some random person on the internet saying it doesn't necessarily make it true.

Public shaming was done for people who shoplifted when my parents were growing up. You got caught stealing and you had to stand outside the business with a sign saying I stole from this store. And from what they told me, it was a very effective method.

Milk cartons??? Don't be silly!
Shoplifting is a criminal offense. Walking a dog through a cemetery is a by-law offense. The are completely different in their severity.

I just don't think it is convincing enough to warrant a public shaming.

Besides, even if she knew of the bylaws, it doesn't mean that she understood how offended people would be. Some people humanize their pets so much that they don't see the boundaries that others see. Honestly, it does annoy when people do that, but it doesn't necessarily make them bad people... just ignorant.

If the mods feel that they need to remove the photo, so be it.

Even if they are different in severity I still like the idea public shaming. I think it would be more effective than dolling out fines to offenders.

Just burn me up, or chuck me into the forest for food and fertilizer when I die, I don't mind. You want to honor me? Raise a glass to me with friends when the mood strikes, don't come to where my corpse is and get all weepy.

Better yet, you wanna honor people? Treat them better when they are alive!

I don't care that she cleaned it up. If a dog shat on my grave I'd be pretty pissed

I still would be. Not a fan of public shaming for minor stuff like this.

I believe that if it were a man walking his dog that some people (not everyone) would take more offense to the situation.
