It should have been apparent from the maturity of a "butt hurt" comment that you were going to miss the original point by a mile.
My mistake.

A little bit sensitive. Again I'm glad they won a gold medal.

If you want more honesty, we were the best team in a two team tournament.

Do you think the dutch crap all over their speedskating medals when they are essentially in a one team tournament in most events?
Get over yourself and enjoy the effort here. So many great stories. So proud of these darn girls/women/moms. Way to go. Awesome.
And that save in OT. That was one of the best saves you'll ever see, by either gender.

I love the crying about the puck hitting the goalpost when reading/viewing US media outlets. It's like that was the most important barrier to winning as if they didn't choke late on a 2-0 lead and a goalie who covered the puck like a 7 year old learning to play the position.

Not to mention if that puck goes in the empty net it destroys the game as all the talk is about the lineswoman screwing up.

They play a Midget AAA series. Last season they were 13-16 against Midget AAA teams across Alberta.
Regardless, these girls are incredible athletes and can most likely skate better than anybody on this forum. Playing against guys that have 50lbs on you and a way harder shot can't be easy, and yet they were able to win a good chunk of those games.

I caught a bit of the third period and the OT. I thought Cassie Campbell and Mark Lee were awesome. Really liked it.
I also found it interesting to hear Campbell say that she thinks the rivalry is getting nastier. I thought it couldn't get more intense than 2002, but I'll defer to her on this (obviously).

All that matters here is that hockey is awesome. Could be Canada vs. USA in Atom house league and I'm still glued to my television.
EDIT: Beer is also awesome.

Sweden beat the USA in the Semi's in 2006.
Canada really didn't blow anyone out this tournament.
The gap is closing.

In all fairness while the Dutch may dominate speed-skating today that does not mean other countries don't put crap loads of money into their speed-skating programs, in an effort to be contenders. In the past many other nations have put up positive results, just four years ago the Dutch had 7 medals, while Canada and the Koreans had 5, the US had 4, and a few other countries had 3. The Dutch have 103 medals all time, but prior to this year there wasn't much separation between the Norwegians with 80, the Americans with 67, the Russians with 72 (including USSR years), and the German nations with 72.
Now the Dutch are absolutely slaughtering other countries this year, but that likely won't continue to happen in the future, at least not with other countries properly funding their programs. Meanwhile in womens hockey it is true that really there are only two contenders, and nothing has changed in 16 years. The only thing that kept the same two teams from making it every single time is one random loss to a lucky Sweden team. Six tournaments in which the same two teams have meddled all six times. It's also not like other countries are getting better, or that they're starting to pump money into their programs either. The Swedes who won the bronze medal four years ago was out shot 70-9 a few days ago! I guess the Swiss made some progress, but who knows if that will even keep up.
The Canadians and Americans are great teams without a doubt, and likely deserve more attention to their games. But to compare it to the Netherlands dominance in speed-skating is nonsensical. There is a reason why womens hockey could be on the chopping block, as just like softball/baseball it doesn't make sense to keep around an event where the results are never going to change every four years. Can you name another event where one or two countries have been that far ahead of the competition for so long? Maybe one could argue mens basketball, but that's a significant money maker for the IOC with all the huge NBA stars taking part, I am not sure the same can be said for hockey.

And don't forget how badly progressive countries like Canada, USA, Britain, and Australia have dominated women's sports in general for the last few decades. It is simply more acceptable for girls to take up sports in these nations and they have more opportunities to do so, but that's finally starting to change
Hell the men's game has actually seemed to regress over the last decade. For 3 of the last 4 Olympics we're going to see one of Canada or the US in the gold medal game, and it's only because of silly pool selections that's preventing them from both getting there again. Countries like Russia and the Czech Republic are shadows of what they once were, so really it's a 3 horse race when you put Sweden in with Finland as a dark horse

not to mention the 1991 and 96 Canada Cup were Canada/US finals so really 5 out of the last 7.

Part of the problem is that the US and Canada have pushed each other to get significantly better. So while the other nations of the world have made dramatic improvements the gap is getting wider because the US and Canada have gotten better faster.

Why does that point ever need making?
Do you make that point before every womens sport you watch.
Womens figure skating can only do triple axels, out junior boys can do it.
Our Womens Bobsled team would have finished last amoug the mens teams.
Womend down hillers don't even run the same course as the men. We could keep going from curling to biathalon the Men's times are better.
None of these things matter!!!
If you feel the need to compare women's sport to the mens sport just shut it off and don't bother watching. No one who cares about sport or excelance cares.
