Either way though, its a coin toss. 4-on-3 for 2 minutes or a penalty shot likely have equal probabilities of success at the end of the day. If that slashing call hadnt been made on the US they probably would have won.
|
Oh I know it's not up to the refs. I get the whole story, it was a botched call. Like a few others. Like the bodycheck from the linelady in the dying 1:30 of the third. But I was ok with the result being a PP in sudden death.
And as bad as the calls were, they seemed to be bad on both sides, no team can really complain about the reffing, at least in affecting them. It evened out as you said earlier.

That's a bit over the top.
Saying that it's about on par with boys midget hockey isn't diminishing it in any way. That's just a fact.
If the NHL doesn't send players in 2018, saying that it won't be a best-on-best tournament isn't diminishing it either - that's just a true statement.
Regardless of the talent level, these are still the best women hockey players in the world and Canada is on top again and that's something to be proud about - especially the manner in which it occurred.

you are right, they are very Vancouver Canuck like in their arrogance, diving and all round attitude... I hope this one stings for a long time for them

Of course not. Nothing like beating a major (and in this sport, only) rival. However, some of the comments here and around other social media sites are disappointing.

Funny, after they won I had completely forgot about that post, after the linesmen got in the way, nearly costing Canada the gold.

I have often argued that 4-on-3 is even easier to score than 5-on-3!

In NHL playoffs it would have started 5 on 5.

Exactly. No one can claim to feel hard-done-by because everyone was equally hard-done-by.

But you never embarrass the refs. When you're warned, and you don't listen, they will always take it personally. Human nature, and pretty basic in sports.

yes that was the original poster's point that 4-on-4 overtime to decide the stanley cup would be foolish.

The mere fact that people make that comparison rather than taking the sport within its own context is enough. Fact or no, why must the highest pinnacle of women's hockey be compared to men's?

They took the crosscheck. Because they couldn't go down to 3 on 2, we got to put an extra player back on the ice for the 4 on 3.

Probably because the women's national team often plays tuneups against boys midget teams. And often loses.

I know that, people were saying we did not have a 4-3 power play.

Who cares?
Why make this argument? Is there a point you are trying to make?
