Come on it was a ridiculous call to make, warning or not. We'd be upset if the same thing happened to Canada. Now there probably should have been a penalty shot on that cross-check call, but the powerplay was a better opportunity anyway.

Have to see replay, but Im not sure it should have been a penalty or penalty shot

Our double a midget quality girls were better than their double a quality midget girls. Gold looks good. I love beating the Americans in anything

Glad Canada won, but a little disappointed with some of the sore winners out there. Yeesh.

I guess but you'd rather they leave the whistles in the pocket and let it play out.

I would probably be upset with the call, but then I would also be more upset at the girl who did it. It's a stupid play to make in a tied game.

Not just you, I was lucky enough to be home for this game but I was trying to stream a game last week at school, and SAIT has some of the top internet speeds in the city. Same freezing and dropouts. Bandwidth problems on their end, likely.

Clear penalty shot. It wasnt even remotely a cross check, it was a trip, the US player clipped her heels, but there was no attempt to play the puck on a clear breakaway and the Canadian player never got a shot off.
Ironclad penalty shot.

Oh yeah, no question about that. Cost them their powerplay as well, in which they could have ended it.
4 on 3 powerplay's in sudden death stink. Glad that doesn't occur in the NHL playoffs.

Is there any other olympic sport where people compare the talent to the opposite gender? Please, give it a rest. Our females are the best in the world at hockey. I'm proud.

Can't fault them for that. Whenever you have "one of the greatest comebacks in history", the other side of the coin is always "one of the biggest chokes in history". This game is going to be in their nightmares forever.

Craig Button has been Vehement on twitter that that wasn't even a penalty. But again thats with replay and everything slowed down.
I think a penalty was just fine. End result ended up in our favor regardless.

No kidding. Want to revel in and share the glory while still diminishing the exact accomplishment they are celebrating in any way they can. Stomach-churning.

Whenever people ask me about my favorite game, that 2002 womens is at the top. Just cause the girls had to beat the US and the refs. It wasn't even trying to be hid. 11-1 at one point? Worst most disgraceful thing I had ever seen in hockey.
That's the kinda thing that could curse your team for generations. If you believe in that sort of thing anyway. If your a little stitious like me.
|
Great point. The reffing was bad this game but at least the calls went both ways. In Salt Lake it was one of the worst cases of biased reffing ever seen. The Canadians winning the gold in 2002 was the miracle on ice.

Why can't it? In this situation it was 5 on 4 for the US because of the cross-checking penalty. During that PP the slash happens making it 4 on 4, then the cross-check possible penalty shot happens and it's 4 on 3.
Something like this could happen in any NHL playoff game.

If a GIF maker can find that glove save by Szabados in OT that would be sweet if it was made...
