I know it was an upset that Latvia beat the Swiss but was it a big upset? The Latvians took the Czechs to OT in the 1st round of the playoffs in the 2010 Olympics. The Czechs won 3-2. I think Canada will win 6-1.

Does Latvia have any players in the NHL? I'm quite surprised that they were able to beat a Swiss team backstopped by Hiller

I'm in Latvia for this game. Should be fun!

Girgensons is the only current NHLer. Ozolinsh has the most NHL experience.
They have 8 total players with NHL experience, but Ozolinsh is the only one with more than 100 NHL games played.

The Swiss seem to always play for a tie, if they score the first goal, they are very hard to beat. However, if they fall behind, they have a very hard time coming back.

Wouldn't call it a big upset based on Switzerland's play in this tournament. I work in Switzerland, my Swiss co-workers all had a bad feeling about this game given the lack of offense from the Swiss going into it.
I'm pretty excited for this game but might be stuck in a meeting for the first period (starts at 6pm here). Definitely would have preferred the Swiss to win, because they probably would have been more challenging to play against and I think we need that before facing the Americans.

If Canada advances, is it certain that they will play in the later game on Friday?

Defense looks great; no concerns there. Each pair has complemented each other well.
Hopefully more scoring up front today.

If Canada wins tonight, they play the 21:00 game on Friday (10:00am mountain). Winners of quarterfinals 3 and 4 (ie Canada and USA's games) play in semifinal 2, the 21:00 game.

At this point, half of this board could do a better job managing Team Canada. This is getting absurd. Of course they win anyway, but how on Earth do you sit Duchene? I'd also make the case for Subban again, but leaving that aside, what the hell. Duchene has been FLYING throughout this tournament and can singlehandedly break down a defense with his speed.
I also would have given Luongo the start here, even if Price plays in the semis and, if they win, the gold medal game... I know I'm in the minority but I feel pretty bad for the guy. It doesn't matter who's in net for this one, and the guy won a Gold for us last time. This time he gets one start, posts a shutout, plays better than Price did in his opening game against Norway, and he never sees the ice again? Just doesn't seem fair, and hasn't been how we've done things in the past.

Kunitz over Duchene? Kunitz has been invisible so far.

I am baffled by the fact that Babock keeps playing Kunitz over MSL or Duchene. Duchene has speed and actually looks noticeable.

the hand wringing about the roster is a bit silly. Were talking about the 14th forward and 8th D-man.
Canada wins this game and future games with how well the top of the roster is doing, not the bottom
