Re: waivers
There is a wide misunderstanding about waivers on CP. With the new waiver rules, marginal players are more valuable having past through waives than they are before. This is because a player who is picked up on waivers MUST be kept on the NHL roster for 30 days (I think that's it). If the player has passed through waivers, the club has more flexibility and is not worried about losing the player. We have seen many of these transactions this year, where a player passes through waivers and is then traded.

If I was Omark I'd just be glad to be getting the hell out of Edmonton. That place is like a black hole of success.
He'll probably at least get an honest shot in Buffalo.

I think most people realize that.
It still doesn't change the fact that 26 year old player that clear waivers is typically unlikely to get an asset back (it's rare). If clearing waivers increases a player's value, that really says a lot about that player's upside.

Tons of skill, just cant translate it at the NHL level.
Does anyone know what the conditions were for the pick? He played 13 games for the Sabres.

Well, I'm sure they had to incur some overhead costs for the faxes and paper that went to putting the transaction through.

Wonder what Buffalo thinks of this. They would have terminated him for failing to report to Rochester. That's not the kind of attitude you want around, and given it seems they won't have to pay the draft pick, seems like they got away with one here.

At least Edmonton wasted a draft pick selecting him in the first place.
That'll teach him to be on youtube.

Actually I think this is one of Edmonton's best trades this year: they got rid of a contract for absolutely nothing

Omark is home again! So freaking awesome. The chances for Luleå to win the Swedish Championship just skyrocketed.
