Default Tablet repair

So of the sons dropped his Nexus 7 tablet. Had a good case but hey I guess it ain't foolproof. Busted the screen. Took it to Memory Express and it would be $160 to fix. Was only $229 when I bought it for him so seems dumb to pay that to fix it. $110 for the screen and $50 for labor.

So my question is has anybody fixed a screen on one of these? He wants the new one anyway as it has two camera's. But I figured if possible I would take a "crack" at fixing the screen and use it myself.

There is a store in Eau Claire that repair broken screens, take a look there. I don't know how much they charge though

That store is iPhix.

http://iphix.ca/

That screen won't make sense to repair yourself. There is so much that can go wrong, I wouldn't bother. Best idea might be to sell on kijiji and let someone buy to fix, and then put that money into a new tablet.

Doesn't look too difficult but could be more trouble than it is worth.

iPhix is terrible. Good luck getting anything that's not a iphone fixed there as they don't work on androids and would have to source the part which would take 2 weeks before they even order it. It would take over a month for them to even get in the part.

How do you intend to fix it yourself for less than Memory Express?

Replacing the screen/digitizer will cost you $70-$100 shipped from the internet anyway. Then you'll probably need to buy some special tools like a heatgun to melt the old screen off unless it comes off with the suction cup trick like old iPhones.

No special tool needed...unless you want to buy the prying tool for 99 cents. Also could be cheaper if you only cracked the screen and not the LCD.
Amazon has the full kit for $79 and just the glass for $28.

Also looks like some of the kits come with the tools.

Excellent info guys. I think I will spend the 28 bucks and try it. Just to see if I can pull it off.
