Default Motorcycles ,riders, rides and what, where and who to buy from

Hey guys,

Just curious who the bike riders are of CP...

what do you have/had/want etc

For me I am 31 have had my 6 since I was 16.

I have owned a

93 Honda CBRf2 600 )crashed on pea gravel)
99 Honda CBR 1100XX Super Blackbird (sold cause it was the bike or the baby mamma)

Then my gf bought a 09 Honda CMX250 Rebel and it came with a 08 Honda WeeBR 125r that she gave to me.

This year if money works out I want to buy a 03-07 Suzuki SV650s or a 1000s.

I have a 2007 YZ250 and a 2009 R6, they are my first two bikes. I really miss riding, spring can't come fast enough.

I've own many bikes over the many years , currently I ride a Kawasaki Zx14 on the street and a Kaw KLR650 for the backcountry.
Both outstanding bikes in their field and the Zx14 will out drive even the most experienced passengers!!

I've been riding for about 10 years now. I got a Suzuki DL650 ABS when I was 22 and it was the perfect 1st bike for me. I was living in Philadelphia at the time, so riding wasn't too much fun around the city, but I really fell in love with it when I took a trip across the US, through Banff and up to the Alaskan border, then down the coast to California. Unfortunately, I broke my collarbone while I was there, so I flew home and had to sell the bike.

I quickly replaced that with a Suzuki SV650 which, while an excellent all-around bike, just never did it for me. As a taller rider who likes long distance trips, I really need the upright riding position of a dual sport, so I replaced that with a Triumph Tiger 1050 SE.

The Tiger was the perfect bike for me. I had a lot of great trips on it, but the best was definitely a 3 week journey from Connecticut to New Orleans to Baja to Canada and back. I had to sell it when I moved, but I'll be buying another one if I ever get the chance.

For now, I'm stuck with a 125cc Honda Dream scooter since that's pretty much the only thing they sell over here. It's actually still fairly fun, but I can't wait to get another real bike.

Picked up my licence last year and bought an '83 Yamaha XJ 650. Looking to do a little trip this spring if I have time.

Any suggestions for a 5-10 day trip from Calgary?

Lots man, From here to Seattle then down the coast is amazing. Or drive to LV.

But on a 83 I would be iffy just cause of the age of the bike (unless it is mint)

@ burn_this_city I hear you man, I hear ya. I cant wait as well.

Question, has anyone bought or delt with Blackfoot MS at all?

Its in ridiculously good shape, but would definitely would want to tune it up before such a trip. Its not the kind of bike that you could take out for 8+ hours a day comfortably though.

Yeah, it really does not, I found long trips are the best if you plan stops all over the place.

But keep in mind Calgary to Seattle is 16hrs. You wanna talk about your ass hurting? try that haha

I currently have an 02 VFR800a with two Givi hard panniers. Great bike that I bought new at Bow Cycle. I've taken it as far as Manitoba and back here to BC via Prince Rupert and the BC Ferry down to the Island. I found that going about 500 ks a day is good for travelling. I hate the long boring slabs though so try to avoid them even when they are the shortest way. BC has some great back roads and it's probably the same in the western US.

I bought my R6 at Blackfoot, they had it marked way down because it was still new but 2 model years old. They aren't my favorite dealer by far, but they've been ok to deal with.

I've been riding for about 8 years...

1st bike was a 2001 Honda Magna...loved that bike

My current ride is a BMW r1150gs that I got for a very very good price from Oregon.

I'm trying to choose between two road trips this year.

Trip A Calgary>prince Rupert>Vancouver island and back

Trip B Calgary>Vancouver>San Fran

If you do the Prince Rupert trip a nice little side road is the Campbell River to Gold River highway. Crossing over to the Sunshine Coast at Comox also is a good ride. Once you get to Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) the route to Whistler and beyond on Highway 99 and into the interior is a good way to go. If you go to Hope unless in a hurry, you can take Highway 3 or the Canyon. Lots of choices, have fun. I liked the highway east out of Vernon, highway 6 I think.

Been riding for over 20 years.

I always go to Cycleworks Foothills ask for Dave or JC and they will help you find what you need. If they cannot help you can go to Blackfoot Direct and talk to Dean. This is around the corner from big Blackfoot and is catered more to the offroad/dualsport crowd.

First Bike: 1990 Honda Z50 Purchased at old Blackfoot Motosports (that bike must of been covered in heroin because I still cant shake the habit.
1993 Honda Xr 80 Purchased at GW Cycle
1995 Kawasaki KX80 Purchased at Pro Am
1997 Kawasaki Kx 100 Purchased at Pro Am
2001 Yamaha Yz 125 Purchased at Pro Am
2003 Yamaha YZ 125 Purchased at Seitzco Motorsports
2005 Yamaha Yz 250F Purchased at Seitzco Motorsports
2007 Yamaha Yz 450F Purchased at Seitzco Motorsports
2008 Yamaha TTR 125 (wifes first bike) Seitzco Motorsports
2008 Yamaha Yz 85 Super Mod (wifes hardly stock bush racing machine) Kijiji Find rode once by a kid flipped it over never to be ridden again.
2013 Husaberg TE 300 Purchased at Cycleworks Foothills AKA new Seitzco Motorsports.

2015 Husky TE 300 comming down the pipe after this race season!

23 year rider here. First bike was an 86 Suzuki GS550EF.

I then had a Honda VFR phase. Of the three I owned, the 2001 VFR800 with gear driven cams was the best motorcycle I have owned in my life. Just an amazing machine. And I troll Kijiji every week for on with less than 15,000 kms.

Spatter in with all the sport bikes, I had a bunch of 'Saturday night bikes'. Basically big bore Japanese cruisers I could throw a salad bowl on my head, throw my leg over and be off to for a nice midnight cruise when I didn't want to leather up. 1997 Intruder 1500LC, 2002 Vulcan 1500 Classic, 2003 Silverado 1600. And a brief experience with an HD Fatboy I wish I could forget.

Then I went into a Hayabusa phase. A '00, '04, and finally a gen II '08. Contrary to popular belief, they are an incredibly easy bike to ride, and incredibly smooth if you behave yourself. You can ride around all day in first and second gear in town, and not even touch 6000 RPM. On full throttle, like the ZX-14, they are absolutely, mind bogglingly insane. My 2008 was simply too much. It had more HP and torque than most of the cars I have owned over the years. If you can behave yourself, incredible machine, unfortunately, I can't, and after going down on it, I went back to cruisers.

After my crash I rode very little for a couple seasons, then sold my 08 Hayabusa, and took a full season off.

Then last summer I found an amazing deal on another 2002 Vulcan 1500FI Classic, for 4 grand on Kijiji. Thing was showroom perfect with only 12,000 kms. And it scratched the itch for last year. I plan to keep it as long as it runs, which could be 20+ years.

I am either going to add the elusive low k 00-01 VFR I have been searching for, or a Ducati 900 Monster as a twisty machine if my VFR search fails. Also a dual purpose like a Sherpa is definitely something I am considering to do some logging roads.

I find now, that buying new motorcycles is not the smartest thing, especially cruisers, which can remain unchanged for over a decade. You can find ridiculous deals on Kijiji in that $4-7k range. Plus the bike market is pretty soft right now, and there is always that guy who's wife is demanding he get rid of 'that damn thing' now, and is open to low ball offers.

If you are looking for a twin, also consider a Honda VTR1000F Superhawk, as I have seen them for under $3000 on Kijiji for clean bikes. Awesomely reliable machines too. Also I have seen some really good deals on RC51's around the $5000 mark. Basically a a poor man Ducati 999R, and with the right tweaks, just as potent.

Haha nice, I love the vtwin, and Honda bikes. But the SV just gets me hard, haha horrible way to put it.

But in think we might need to do a CP ride this year.

Also why do people HATE Blackfoot motorsports so much?

27 years

Started out with a 1980 Honda MB5, then to a short lived Yamaha 400 Heritage Special. Up next was my Black 1984 Honda VT500FT Ascot, a light, v-twin shaft drive Beauty that I still miss to this day. Sadly, I blew the motor on it, and that turned out to be the end of her. I then moved up to a 1985 Suzuki GS1150 ES, which was a good, strong bike, although it had it's share of electrical problems.

I currently ride a 1999 Kawasaki ZRX 1100, the mighty Z-Rex, a bike I would recommend to anybody. Huge amounts of bottom end torque, good handling, good brakes, and a relatively comfortable riding position (for a sport bike). I don't plan to ever get rid of it.
