Default Alienware X51

Looking at getting a new rig for my home office, I know I could probably build a better PC for the price. The selling point for me is the size of the PC.

Just want to get an opinion on the rig it self http://www.dell.com/ca/p/alienware-x51-r2/pd.aspx

This is a pretty comparable one to the high end Alienware one in that link for much less:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX50045

Like you mentioned, its not very compact however.

edit: The graphics on the Alienware one are much better though, but I am not sure what your priorities are.

You could probably go to MemEx and get something built with similar specs/size for less.

Yup was going to say the same thing, I would check them out before I bought that Alienware build.

Just to clarify, he's concerned specifically about the size not that he doesn't want to build a PC. And as I mentioned in my post, you could build a similar sized PC yourself.

Alienware is also releasing their Steambox console very shortly here. Maybe hold off?

Yeah there are like 12 different companies dropping out SteamBoxes in the next few months, I'm sure many will be around the $700 price point, and they will likely be better deals than the Alienware.

I would pay $450 to not have that horrible thing. Alienware has always been tremendously ugly.

Which model are you looking at? $699? $1199? What is the purpose of this machine? (besides being the ugliest thing in your room).
