I doubt that there will be very many Calgary-specific studies on gay-bullying. It seems unlikely that a local Calgary institution would have enough money to spend on that type of study. But why would you want Calgary-specific statistics anyway? Do you have some reason to believe that gay-bullying in Calgary would deviate in any meaningful way from the national statistics?

Well I have been swayed by the studies and the popular support. I now support the flag.
Now if only I can find a rainbow car flag.
Does anyone know where you can order these online?

Becuase I said the MLK quotes while thought envoking were more applicable to his time and the Black Civil Rights issues vs. (from my opinion) opression of the LGBT in Calgary.
I then brought up some posters comments on LGBT bullying in school and how this flag might make them feel something. I mused that I didn't witness any LGBT bullying in my days and wondered how much actually happened in Calgary schools - then commenting that we'd probably need a Calgary school counselor or teacher to get even a remotely unbiased view.
I know I'm often long winded, unclear, and confusing - but it seems like you totally ignored my two Calgary references and forgot that we're posting on a "Calgary"puck forum

The point remains, what makes you think Calgary would seriously deviate from the national average?
Those MLK quotes are simply applicable to human rights in general. They are not cause specific.

I already said as much, I don't witness LGBT bullying in my day to day life nor did I in school. I think we're in a pretty great city but am willing to admit I might have a sheltered opinion. How hard is it to follow me, am I that confusing? I've said this already.
re: The quotes, I KNOW, I said as much. "Nonetheless still some good quotes that make you rethink some comments that might have been expressed."
But given that we were talking about a specific thing, in a specific city I think it was fair to comment on them in that context.

It's not that you're hard to understand, it's that your line of thinking is kind of illogical.

Not witnessing something and then asking if there's any evidence to support whether or not what you've witnessed would be an accurate representation is illogical?
I'd think assuming what I've witnessed to be correct and not asking the question would be illogical.
Regardless, we already don't agree on plenty of stuff given I thought your posts were pretty insulting towards me with insinuations that I harbored secret prejudices. So I think we’re going to disagree regardless. Agree?

Maybe it's because of my involvement with the humanist movement worldwide and I see so many stories about LGBT stories that show the dark side of humans that this kind of thing seems so uncontroversial to me.
Every time we can show our support to a minority that is truly being oppressed, hunted down, arrested, beat up, murdered, bullied, and a minority that has a really high suicide rate I am thrilled to see it.
The west has come a long way in just the last 10 years, but there are so many places around the world that have a VERY long way to go, and you would be surprised just how much these gestures mean to those struggling around the world and at home.
This is a no brainer, and I am sorry some of you don't see it that way, but this is about being decent to each other and supporting a segment of our society that has had it very rough for way too long, and its due time we fix that and visibly showing our support is one great way to help change hearts and minds.

Well put Thor.
This should be as unanimous as flying the flags at half mast for Nelson Mandela. It's disappointing to see as many votes against as there are. Maybe I should appreciate how far we have come rather than dwell on the distance we still have to go.

Its especially disappointing considering how absurd and strained the justifications for voting against have been.

Gay Flag..How about a Bi-sexual flag as well? It should be the Canadian flag only.
Olympics should not be about politics period.
The best of the best.
I think i'll fly the pirate flag as well.

The Olympics have been politically charged since before you were alive. Swing and a miss.

Finally, a clear, cogent, articulate, even eloquent, argument against raising the LGBT flag (ahem "Gay Flag") at City Hall during the Olympics. Thank you. You are indeed the "best of the best".

Should we tell him that bi-sexuality is included in the LG BT or just let him be?
