Careful, you will get in trouble for spoilering comic stuff (I assume that is what you are doing).

Its not really a comic spoilers but moreso from news reports about the rest of the season, but I can remove it if wanted.

All good for me, I am not fussed, but it was an issue earlier. I got in trouble asking for asking a question about a post someone made.

That's basically what I figured as well as it was his shouting at Rick that made those two start pawing at the door.
Shortly after that, you see him walk into the middle of the street, look around, and then says "cool" or something. Figured he meant he was happy that the gunshot didn't bring out any other walkers in town.
I thought the episode was pretty good. The Michonne flashbacks were crazy and going all midieval on that mini horde was awesome.
Good episode, kinda a calm after the storm. Looks like next week gets ramped up pretty good again.
Anyone watch the Talking Dead after the show? Great way to extend the TWD experience IMO. Good guests (for the most part) and good behind the scenes stuff. They showed Hershels animatronic head, that was great.

Carl didn't forget how to shoot his gun, shooting from cover is different than shooting from your back while fearing for your life. Carl was cocky and careless and this episode exposed his weaknesses and showed that he is still a child.
People complained that their accuracy wasn't believable. This episode they got what they wanted.

For me, personally, the lack occasional lack of internal consistency throws me off sometimes. I'm prepared to suspend disbelief and allow for a world in which walkers can exist. Just please keep the rules the same from season to season (unless there is a rational explanation for the change). It seems changes come about when it's convenient to advance a plot point, rather than for some other organic reason.
Rick and Carl's struggles to dispatch walkers when we've become used to them taking them out in the most nonchalant badass ways threw me off. Just like watch Darrell use walkers to shield himself from incoming gunfire was inconsistent with our earlier experiences with squishy soft reanimated flesh.

I really liked the episode; it flew by for me.
I could have done without about half of the Karl drama, but it was nice to have the focus on just a few characters. The Michonne backstory was super cool, nice to hear her speak and look normally for a change. The slow transition of her peeps to being dead was freaky and unexpected.
I also liked the way they handled the mini-reunion.
Did anyone else think they altered Rick's voice at times? It was weird.

I was thinking the same. They could have wrapped up "Carl's not happy with Rick" in about half to a third of the lines used. By the time they got to him talking to an unconscious Rick, it seemed a bit long.
Michonne was certainly the best part of the episode. It's great to see that they are having her do more than stand around and look angry this season.

According to Talking Dead, the whole scene with Carl believing Rick died and turned was straight out of the comics. I thought that was a cool scene. Not sure if the rest of Carl dawdling around the neighborhood was in there. It was a bit silly, but maybe it's comic canon? Not that I need an answer to that though since this is the non-comic thread.

I was going to put that in the GMG thread. Totally hate it when you go to loot a property and find out that everything has already been looted PLUS nobody warned you about the hidden zombies. Jerks.

It was a good start. I though the Governor and Hershel shots were a bit pandering, but it only took a few seconds to make a certain portion of the audience feel some closure.
Some of the initial scenes with Michonne had me feeling that she was following them along some migration path.
There's always couple of directions they can go. I still would like them to get out of that location. Visit Canada! See how other pockets of civilization ate doing. Wouldn't it be funny if the rest of the country was cured, or they were just stuck in a quarantine zone all this time?
I don't want another villain at this point. It's too soon. If they had a good story line for Morgan, I'd like to see his involvement some more.

I must have missed this closure that everyone's referring to in regards to the governor. Was there a shot of his reanimated corpse near the beginning somewhere? I only recall Herschel's lonely noggin.

Beginning of the episode showed the Gov's head wound.

I think they did that to tie the story together. My theory is that Michone is going to show up with Carl's shoe. I think that's why Rick said it's for you and kind of laughed when he went to the door. She was tracking them and I think she found the message and got the shoe.

Possibly but I think it was Carl just being cocky.

nods to the comics are always cool, although I think this is an example of it not being executed too well. when Rick woke up, I think the more sensible choice of action would be to whisper "Carl...". instead he went with the good old reliable "wheeze and groan like a zombie while reaching out and trying to grasp in as creepy a manner as possible." I almost thought for a moment he was trying to get himself killed because he felt he was too much of a burden to his son.
in general, anyone who thought this was gonna be a huge mega action episode hasn't been paying attention these past 4 years. the first episode of each half season is always a setup, to establish the environment and the state of the characters. never have they done the big slaughter/firefight to kick things off. you don't have to like it, but if you were preparing yourself to get your socks knocked off, I don't feel sorry for you.

It wasn't so much that it needed to be packed with action or have some unexpected twist to blow me away. Rather, it's the way the told the story of Karl's realization of the dependence on his father (something the audience was already well aware of) in such a drawn out and unimpressive manner. I mean, it's great to now have that aspect present in the character but apart from a few shots/sequences (the lost shoe and him devouring the pudding) it was fairly underwhelming and highly conventional.
I definitely appreciate the increased complexity to Michonne, who was becoming pretty one dimensional. I'm willing to take the episode within the context of the overall season, but I have to admit I was a little let down after being forced to deal with a mid-season break.
