If he stays hot he'll do it almost for sure I'd think. Incidentally, how many more games does he have?

Ryan Howse hit 51 goals in 2010-2011

He still has 14 games this season to get at least 10 goals.

I'd say it's almost for certain.

I remember Howse scoring 50, but I thought it was in an inferior league?

Well.. Turns out the Chiliwack Bruins are WHL.. actually did not know that. (look at me not pretending to be a know it all like virtually everyone else on the board lol)

Bryan Cameron potted 53 goals in 2009/10 for Barrie Colts.....although he wasn't Flames property until that season was over, and Sutter signed him.

Were Cameron and Howse not overagers when they produced those numbers though?

Howse was 19 turning 20 in July. Poirier is 19 turning 20 in December.

Poirier will have played 8-10 less games and likely have a much higher PPG. Howse did it in a less offense friendly league.

Howse's drawback at the time was his skating and commitment if I remember correctly. Poirier is fast and I haven't heard any negatives about his commitment level to this point but it's early.

I had a brief chat with Marc Habscheid in the summer of 2010 when he was in my store and he said there was little chance Howse would make it to the NHL. He said he had no drive and thought his shot alone would get him there.

I don't see a lot of similarities between them. Still a little splash of that cold dose of reality about projecting junior scorers.

*I know nothing or less about scouting junior hockey players.

Howse scored because he had a great shot. He could beat WHL goalies, however, none of the rest of his game was good.

Poirier's game though is very good all round. There isn't much comparison between them other than they'll both be great junior scorers. Poirier though looks like he'll become a good NHLer

Howse was bad I remember him just waiting around for 1 timers and he looked over weight and slow. I knew he would never make the NHL.

Poirier named 3rd star of the week for the QMJHL for his 8 goals in 3 games.

Howse's drawback was everything except his shot. I made a point to watch the games that were on TV after he was drafted... nothing about him (again aside from his shot) was NHL quality... a few of his skills were barely WHL quality. I noticed Horak and Sundher positively more then I noticed Howse.

Lol, who were the first two?

Just checked... Mantha and Barbashev, each with 9 pts.

Great for Poirier.

Mantha and Duclair have been scoring at a ridiculous pace in the Q.

Didn't Poirier also have 1 assist? (so 9 points as well, but 8 of them goals?)

Yeah I stopped looking at the QMJHL overall stats a month or so ago because I get really jelly when I see Mantha's stats. I keep telling myself its because hes on a good offensive team with a bunch of high scorers also above a point per game. But I am likely wrong and he is just a freakishly good prospect that wasnt on our 'list'.

Not that I am unhappy with having Klimchuk and Emile but looking at the mock draft as an armchair scout I wanted us to take Mantha or Freddy Gauthier because he/they projected as a talented power forward type, perfect for our smaller prospects to play on a line with. He put up 51 points in his first full season in the Q. 20th overall.. 47 goals 97 pts in 44 games

Damn
