I wonder if there could be a deal with Florida centred around Wideman and Gudbranson? It seems the Panthers have soured on him. Heck, even his original rookie deal was a contentious affair. I'm sure there would be additional moving parts but it's a thought...

No I think Nieuwendyk actually thought Pardy was a good defenseman deserving of that deal. I don't recall the Islanders overpaying for roster filler do you have examples of them doing it every season?

I think Florida made some odd moves to get to the floor. Tallon spent a lot on guys like Upshall, Versteeg, Kopecky.

Pretty much what I was hoping for, I said 2.5 max, but can't argue with a little over. Hopefully for him and the Flames he earns a raise in 2 years.

Another good Feaster move. Burke said Feaster was the problem, but he likes Russell, Poirer, Klimchuk, and Kanzig good enough...

I'm starting to feel bad for Feaster watching the Heat be one of the best teams in the league and seeing his guys do well and get locked up.

Sure, I know, O'Brien, Jones, Galiardi have been busts... I didn't say he was perfect, but he did a good job adding pieces in his tenure.

At best Feaster came out even. For every success there was a glaring mistake. Not quite someone you want in charge of building your team, but it's in the past.

But what GM isn't like that? every guy that's been in and out of here has had his fair share of hits and misses. Who is consistently winning deals more than half the time in the GM world?

That's a good contract. Big windfall for Russell in two years too if he earns it, everyone wins.

Feaster was fired for his brutal trades of Regehr, and mostly Bouwmeester. He looked bad during the Iginla trade, and then there is the RoR offer sheet. The Jankowski pick is also very questionable when Maata was still on the board

I think he left some money on the table. Hard to believe he couldn't have got at least a bit more or a longer term elsewhere. Very happy with this signing.

Fair deal.

It's been a good fit for him.

I don't want to derail this thread into a Feaster discussion, but I will say this: Every GM loses trades and make mistakes, the problem with Feaster is that his mistakes were far more heavily weighted than his victories.

You can like him if you want, but getting so little for Iginla and Bouw affects the Flames far more negatively than getting a good 2nd pairing defenceman affects them positively.

Did they not acquire Tim Thomas's contract when he was sitting out?

They also traded for Brian Roloston one year - http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...-trent-hunter/

Good. Under 3 years and 3 million per is perfect. He hasn't earned more than that.

Called him a plug when we picked him up.

Shows how much I know. Nice contract for sure.

I think he is just being smart. It was only a year ago that he was passed over waiver bait by St. Louis. There have been a few players in similar situations that demanded more money and ended up having their salaries buried in the AHL when they couldn't live up to it. (which hurts their long term earning power).

Russell found a good fit here and made a smart decision by not asking for the moon.

Feaster made some good moves for sure. His downfall was that he had no plan. Ever. And what little plans he did have, he changed frequently. He had no idea how to build a hockey team. Love or hate Burke's approach, he knows exactly what he wants and has an unwavering approach to ensure that vision is realized.

It isn't about individual moves, it's about how they all come together to work conceptually. Or not in Feaster's case.
