RPG Codex top 50 cRPG's
RPG Codex put out a top 50 list for Computer Role Playing Games.
Stolen from this thread:
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index...results.89680/
I agree with a lot of it, but there are a lot on there I haven't played.. I would have liked to see at least one Ultima in the top 20 if not the top 10-15..

No way should Fallout 1 be above Baldur's Gate 2, IMO. Yeah, Fallout 1 was super important to cRPGs today (and thus BG2), but it feels more like nostalgia to put it above a game like BG2. Fallout 2 I can understand. The list gets into some really iffy territory after the top group. Alpha Protocol above KotOR? The Witcher 1 above the Witcher 2? No Skyrim? Troika's TToEE that high?

Is Fallout: New Vegas better than Fallout 3?
Honest question, I truly enjoyed Fallout 3 but got completely bored with NV.

I think so. I guess it's debatable, but the census seems to be it more closely feels like a Fallout game compared to an Elder Scrolls game.

KOTOR 2 is better than KOTOR 1?
Not a chance. The gameplay in 2 was a bit better but the characters and story in 1 were miles better. Forget the fact that KOTOR 1 had one of the best "holy crap" moments ever.

This makes no sense. Fallout 2 and Fallout 1 are the same damned game. Fallout 2 is basically a F1 expansion pack - granted, with more guns and a larger explorable area, but that's offset by the introduction of new sprites that didn't mesh with the original's graphics. F1 had a better story and better gameplay arc, and if that weren't enough, it clearly wins on the basis of novelty. Finding the Brotherhood for the first time in F1 was a revelation. F2 was still a good game but it wasn't as much fun simply because it was the second time around.

Way better. Fallout 3 sucked. At least NV had some personality.

Not to mention that KOTOR II was unbelievably buggy. It was an unfinished game that was rushed to market.
Overall I tend to agree with the list but Deus Ex should clearly be in the top 10.

Fallout 2 is basically to Fallout 1 what BG2 is to BG1. Bigger, expanded, and with more options. You might as well call the Baldur's Gates games the same damn game if you see it like that.
Anyway, my opinion does make sense, because, oddly enough, people don't judge their enjoyment of video games on yours.

not only that, kotor 2 is an unfinished mess. side stories that are hinted at but go nowhere (HK droid factory??). the least satisfying ending ever where it's just Traya telling you what happens to everybody, followed by like a 10 second cinematic of your ship escaping the gravity well.
after the pure awesomeness that was the kotor 1 dark side ending, that was like taking a gaffi stick right in the bread basket.

I love me some old school cRPGS but... how the hell is Skyrim not on that list? Sure it's new(ish) and shiny but it's one of the greatest achievements of the RPG genre especially on a computer. At least Morrowind got on there.

Skyrim had a threadbare story; few noteworthy supporting characters; bland, personality-less companions; combat was a monotonous click-fest with almost no strategy; and character advancement consisted mainly of slight statistical increases (something modern cRPGs have evolved beyond with meaningful perks and skills).
It was an OK open world exploration game, but a pi** poor role playing game.

You just described everything Skyrim wasn't. Either you have no clue about rpg's or you never even played the game and are just talking out of your ass.

Not sure about Icewind Dale. I have a feeling it is only there because of nostalgia. It is basically a Baldur's Gate combat simulator.

I agree he was wrong about almost everything, except the companions. They were pretty much annoying and shallow in every respect.

Totally agree. Just a hack and slash, with no story. I have played BG through 4 times and on a fifth right now with the EE. After which I'll play through BG2 for a 7th time. So much replay ability .... and Icewind Dale sits on my shelf collecting dust. Finished it once just to say that I did. Really rather meh.

Good to see Wasteland on the list. Spent months on the C64 playing that and Bard's Tale.

SW KOTR 1 should be in the top ten alone just for the ending, but otherwise was a tremendously fun game with lots of options and re-playability. I dont think I've enjoyed an RPG more than that game.
Morrowind should be top 5, probably the best story for an RPG I've played. I still want to go back and play it again sometime soon just to go through it again.
