I personally haven't heard anything from Feaster implying there were conditions. Might have missed it during the whole circus at the time, but I didn't catch it.

Actually the exact words he used was that it was a "guaranteed 1st", and was very deliberate about using that exact phrasing in his second response as well. This led to speculation that it would have been a 1st that year or this year, depending on how deep a playoff run they went on. Similar to the Kaberle deal.

actually he said it was not conditional.
on second thought I don't remember clearly enough, but not conditional is what sticks out to me

So, if all our D are healthy:
1. Giordano
2. Brodie
3. Russell
4. Wideman
5. Smid
6. Butler
...who sits so we can "see what Breen has"?
I know the easy answer is Butler for most folks, but he hasn't played bad enough to deserve a scratch....in fact, he's played really well lately IMO.
Seems dumb to call up Breen because he's finally in game shape, only to plant him in the press box and let him lose that edge he apparently gained by playing a lot in Abbotsford.

Sit Butler or Smid. Breen can't replace what the others bring

Based off what I've seen lately, Wideman, no doubt in my mind. He's seriously struggling just to keep up with the play.

I didn't mean it in that way, just the suggestions of ward on his confidence and recent slump make it seem like Sven could benefit from having an experienced nhler in a similar situation.

I figured that's what you meant, but what I was getting at its that what they say, doesn't necessarily mean anything. He could be bad mouthing the organization to his teammates for all we know, or pouting.

Sounds like he's being pretty honest about not playing well and having some motivational issues playing for a losing team.
Which is fine, keeping your head in a season like this with the Flames has to be tough and for a vets who don't have a lot of seasons left it has to be even harder.

Sounds like O'Brien is being a champ about this. Good too see, and hopefully it does help the team down there as well as the kids personally.
For all of Kotalik's warts, he was great on the Heat. Went down there with a positive attitude, became a bit of a leader, and received loads of praise from teammates and Ward. Hopefully O'Brien does the same.

These guys are getting paid lots of money and want to land contract's after this one. No matter if they are bitter or angry about being demoted, it would be a ridiculous move to go off in the media about it. His play will tell if he's actually engaged with the team... not quotes.

And does anyone remember how JBo was referred to one of the most overpaid players in the league prior to being traded? JBo's numbers are also coming back down to Earth. He plays on arguably the best d-core in the league right now too, which further skews his numbers.

Feaster was too soft on this. When Iginla provided a list of teams, Feaster should get the best deal. To have a deal with Boston and then to defer to Iggy's preference was a mistake. It was a list, therefore, a trade to any one of those teams on the list was the only input Iggy should have had. If I recall the news conference, Feaster said something along the lines of "Iggy earned the right to choose his team..." Feaster was right...but that's way he had a list.

Personally I am confused why the Flames have recalled Breen, Burke states they want to see if he can play at this level. In 4 or 5 games or so, he has dressed for one and played 4 minutes.
Time to send him down again.

What if Iginla just provided a list that said Penguins on it?

Hartley makes those decisions and now that everyone is healthy which regular is going to sit so Breen can come in and play <10 minutes?
