Really though, if he is a LW, I know it's not hard to move to the other side, but what are they going to do with the collection? Unless Sven and Glenncross are out too?
How has other DEL-"stars" fared when going over to the NHL?
I am not sure, but going the other way there are a lot of marginal and fringe NHLers that have gone to the DEL and dominated... so there is a pretty big talent gap. Wolf has similar or slightly better numbers than recent NHLer Hecht, but then a guy like Reinprecht is a total beast in the DEL.
It's difficult to transfer stats across leagues like that though. Back in the KHL, Jagr was not as productive in a few season than some players that struggled in the NHL. Some leagues are just better for certain types of players. The DEL is known for being a league where smaller skilled players thrive, so maybe Wolf who looks more like a power forward, will be able to adjust to the NHL easily.
Still, nothing wrong with taking a shot in the dark like this (assuming it is true). I totally believe that there are diamonds out there that are just waiting to be found.

For reference, Mike York has been one of the best players in the DEL the last few seasons. An over the hill Briere was over there for the lockout and managed to get 34 points in 21 games.

Spot on. Take a guy like Omark for example. He can dominate the Swiss League but has been awful at taking his game to the NHL.
Also agreed that there's nothing wrong with taking a shot. It's not like the Flames are going to be struggling to get under the cap.
heard the rumour yesterday that a German DEL Player is indeed headed to the NHL, but heard no names. Realistically, the only two guys that make sense in terms of age and production are Jerome Flaake and David Wolf, so no surprise Wolf is rumoured now.
Would be a major step for him. Few years ago I thought he'd be lucky to even turn into a 2nd/3rd line forward in the DEL ... haven't watched him closely over the last couple years, but his skating and hockey sense must have improved dramatically. Otherwise he won't make it.
Take my assessment with a grain of salt though ... I'm not a DEL expert.
