Seriously though, new information doesn't need to go into a related thread that's 30 pages long, particularly if the thread title doesn't get updated by the OP and therefore doesn't indicate that the new information would be contained in said 30-page thread.

It just hit me why I hate the megathreads so much.
I like being able to read the first page of the forum (particularly Fire and Ice) and know what's going on. Then if I'm interested, I can click the link for more info.
With megathreads there's nothing to differentiate news from the mere continuations of old discussions at a glance.

For certain subjects that does make sense, but let's say for the Weather thread...do you really want a new thread for every windy day, thunderstorm warning and such?

The only thing that irritates me about megathreads is when someone makes a new topic that could be placed in the megathread people complain. If someone feels that its more important and should be separate no one should complain because there is probably a lot of interest in the independant thread.
