Not really, since he never played for Edmonton. As the term "something special" should really only be reserved for Oilers players.

Sure you're not thinking of Marc-Andre Bergeron or Marc-Antoine Pouliot or another hyphenated named Oiler reject?

It's too bad about the concussions. Went from a 20 year old 60 point player to out of the league by 29.

If Bouchard gets his game sorted out, he is a hell of a player.

Low risk, high reward for Chicago. Yikes.

making room to permanently bring up Strome, most likely.

Default Bouchard, Regin for 2014 4th Round Pick

What is/was the islanders contract situation? At first blush this would seem like a contract clear out move, although not sure what is in it for the Hawks.

I suppose just forward depth. Would Regin stick up with the Hawks? Seems like he's dressed regularly for the Islanders

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Isles retained 50 percent of salary/cap hit for both Bouchard and Regin in trade with Hawks

Only way the Hawks could fit them in

Islanders were at 44 contracts before that. Probably just clearing Regins NHL spot for Strome, who is more than ready. Also they're obviously expecting to get multiple pieces back for Vanek and MacDonald, so that kind of contract flexibility helps.

Can a team retain salary on all trades they make or is there a set amount. Like one trade only?

1. Teams can only have three contracts on the books where they’ve retained salary in a trade

2. Teams can keep only up to 15 per cent of the salary cap in a given year, meaning they would max out at $9.645-million under the $64.3-million cap that’s likely to be in place in 2013-14 and 2014-15

3. Only 50 per cent of a contract can be kept

4. A contract can only be traded in one of these deals twice

I think there is a limit of 2

Edit: I stand corrected!

A team can have 3 contracts where they retained salary. I assume that it means 3 players they are paying on another team and not that it works vice versa as well (Vanek is paid in part by Buffalo but doesn't count towards the Islanders limit)

And the total salary can be at max 15% of the cap.

Can OP or mod edit the title to say who the teams are? Guessing it was rushed to try to break the news, but annoying as is

Good deal for the Hawks. Two NHL'ers at half salary for a 4th round pick.

Hawks have assigned Bouchard to the AHL.

Bouchard may have been a salary dump.

Can't imagine the Isles were happy paying him $2 million in the AHL.

Bouchard wasn't playing in the NHL though, he cleared waivers months ago.

Sure, but he's an 11-year veteran in the league (wtf I am getting OLD). Hawks could call him up and he could step right into their lineup.

I guess what I am trying to say is, the kings would have to send a good chunk of cap to the isles if they were to try and acquire him. Depending on his actual cap hit.

Right, so how much did buffalo eat of vaneks cap? Because if I am reading what sure loss posted correctly, the isles cannot eat any cap off of vaneks contract when they try to move him. Which would leave his cap hit exactly where ATM?
