I'd do that trade straight up in a heartbeat. If Gagner can convert to wing thats a big win for the Kings. We definitely need a spark in scoring, fast.

What an amazingly terrible trade for the Oilers.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
To be clear, I can't assure you Clifford + a pick or prospect for Gagner + EDM retaining $ is guaranteed to happen but it's being discussed.

Gagner would play better in LA where he is surrounded by bigger players that could compliment him. He doesn't fit in Edmonton - that's the bottom line.
He would fit a lot more in LA.

they'd have to retain salary in every year of the contract remaining, correct? Terrible.

Forget which game this was being discussed in about a week ago, but they said LA wants Gagner for offense but especially for the PP. They showed Kopitars PP numbers and from what I remember they weren't good.

Personally, I want Edmonton to better and make the playoffs. Yes I hate them, but not as much as the Canucks. However, I feel that if Edmonton were stronger it would further push our own Management to improve and expose our shortcomings even more to further the change for a better personnel. A stronger Oilers team makes a stronger Flames team in my opinion and I think that is something all Flames fans want. Plus I would rather have heated rivalry games for division championships like we used to instead of these battles for first pick in the draft.

It isn't the 1980s anymore. I very much doubt that anyone in the Flames measures the size of their dick against Edmonton's.

Burke does. But only so he knows how far away he can stand from Lowe before slapping him in the face.

One would think that the Kings may agree to this deal but wait until after the Olympics to finalize it just to save out on the cap space during that time to lower their hit if the salaries don't match up.

Well, of course - now that they don't have to share a dressing room in the Corral anymore.

To make the trade today (assuming one for one or with picks/non-NHL prospects), the Oilers would have to cover 32% of Gagner's contract or about $1.5 million/year for this year and the next two. That would assume the Kings don't make any callups or demotions to lower or increase their cap hit or put guys on LTIR.

So how does that actually work? Does Edmonton actually pay that portion of the salary or do they just lose that portion of the cap? I assume they actually pay it, but I'm not 100%.

It would be funny getting your LA paycheck and also getting your Edmonton paycheck ... for over a million dollars.

Both are true,

first scenario is if the trade happens today, second if the trade happens at deadline

Unless LA adds something else significant, I don't understand what Edmonton gets out of this. Who will play centre for them?

I know that the Oilers have too many Gagners on their team, but you still have to get value out of your assets. Clifford is a good role player, nothing more.

Listening to Oilers Now and Stauffer said nothing is happening at this moment. Almost sounded like the ball was in Lombardi's court right now.
