I hope they talk EDM into taking a salary dump for these 3rd and 4th liners to free up room for Cammi.

LA would win this trade if it goes through as a straight 1 for 1 on the basis of talent alone (although neither player is anything to write home about). Potentially the Oilers could come out on top depending on if and how they were to utilize the 3.6M dollar difference in salaries next year.

Gagner will end up being another player that turned his career around after leaving Edmonton.

I wonder if guys like Hall, Eberle, and Nuge are jealous that Gagner finally gets to escape the crapshow that is the Edmonton Oilers franchise. Go from laughing stock franchise to cup contender playing in Hollywood. That's a pretty good deal.

Fully agree, Scoutski. Its like they are just changing pieces around their core to see if they can help generate some better work ethic. However, thats how most teams operate. But Edmonton is like watching craps.. No pun intended. Maybe..

As for Gagner and Clifford. With our group of Centers right now, I would much rather have Clifford on our team. Clifford and Bouma Centering Granlund or Knight on the 3rd line next year would be bad a$$.

Cogliano and Penner are the first two that come to mind. I'm sure there are others.

Cogliano seems to be playing well now that he's left the oil. Let's hope Gagner does well for his new team

i would love for this to be the deal, other than the fact that it means no cammalleri LA bound.

We're a day away from the 3 p.m. ET Olympic roster freeze, so you can expect trade talks to pick up a little, although I suspect most of the action will still wait until the March 5 trade deadline.

Still, a source told ESPN.com Thursday that trade talks have intensified between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings regarding center Sam Gagner.

The Kings are also believed to have interest in Matt Moulson, Mike Cammalleri and Thomas Vanek -- all three of whom have expiring contracts.

Gagner must be happy as a clown with the prospect of being dealt to LA. I know he had a verbal NTC from MacTavish, but it's hard to understand why he wouldn't want to get out of the dumpster fire in Edmonton to go to most teams. Maybe expectations are so low in the Oilers lockerroom that he prefers to play there, so he won't have to put much effort in.

Cogliano, Souray, and Lupul are the most prominent. Penner doesn't really count as one since this will be his 2nd best career year. His career high in points and goals were with the Oilers.

Don't the Kings already have Kopitar, Carter, Richards etc at centre?

I don't think that's the issue here. The Oilers have added character players like this already in Ference, Hendricks, Gordon to help their depth and is hasn't made a lick of difference because their top players can't play a team game. This deal may be addition by subtraction because Gagner has been abysmal defensively for them but it's still not going to fix what ails that team.

At the pace the Oilers are going, they'll have traded everybody but Hall, Eberle, RNH, Yakupov, Perron and Ference by the time the trade dealine ends.

Kopitar, Richards and Stoll. Lots of talk about converting Gagner to wing but I think most pundits agree that his board play is too weak to be converted like that.

Maybe the deal is Clifford, Stoll, Martinez for Ganger, N.Schultz

I think MacT is going to get fleeced regardless
