And yes, we have the Vikings and the Celtics logos. But those ethnic logos come from the ethnicity of the fans, and originally the owners, of the team. It's one thing for a fan-base of mostly Scandinavian background to use a Viking logo. It's another thing entirely for a team to use an ethnic stereotype of a group that originally wasn't even allowed to attend games, who were not represented among the fans, the owners, the sportswriters.

FWIW - this is from the Boston Herald in 1933 when they changed the name from the Braves to Redskins (team originated in Boston) that the name change that states the reasons they gave back then.

Seems like it would satisfy both parties in some way.

If you change the Redskins you have to change them all. Both the Indians and Blackhawks logo's are more offensive imo than the Redskins name. If one ends up changing their name under pressure it will only be the beginning, do you really believe the NA will stop there?
You can kiss the Braves, Blackhawks, and Indians goodbye as well.

Braves has been addressed along with the Seminoles. I think most groups don't have a problem with name Indians, but Chief Wahoo, as much as I love him, is some pretty racist ####.

I think it's a cliched stereotype of a Native and that's why it bothers some people.
The yellow line in his hair also looks like it has a set of balls on the bottom ... must we constantly teabag this once proud heritage?
