Default .avi To iTunes Converter Recommendation?

Anyone have any updated tips for a converter that can convert .AVI to .MOV (or something that iTunes can handle)?

Handbrake

Can convert just about anything to MP4 which will play in iTunes and on iOS devices.

+1 for Handbrake as well.

Just a caution, the file conversion isn't a fast operation... or maybe it is. I was using a pretty old laptop, but it was pretty much the time it took to watch the video in its original format was how long it took to convert it to an iPod friendly format.

Does Handbrake work well? Yes. I used to use it all the time to convert movies.

However I would recommend paying $3 for AV Player. https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/avplayer/id395680819

That way you can just transfer files over in whatever format you want.

Thanks all. Ease and convenience are important to me. Will prob give AV player a shot (a reasonable $3 gamble)

Now that VLC is back in the store, you can save the $3 and try that, too.

I believe VLC for iOS is only a video streamer. So no local file support. Which means if you have a network/internet location your fine, but if your on an airplane your hooped.

If you need local stored movie playback AVPlayer is your best bet outside of converting to MP4 via Handbrake.
However, in the case you have WMV files I have found AVPlayer to suck. I have some old movies (When I first started ripping movies in early 2000, and thought WMV was awesome) and I ended up converting to MP4 for all WMV (Which is a garbage format now IMO)

Edit: My bad, this is incorrect

VLC definitely has local file support. And it play video with DTS audio, which AVPlayer doesn't.

Ya my bad. I misread an article on it that you needed to stream content. I went in and tried to load local content and it worked.

So ya, basically strike everything I said. Thanks for the correction.
