Soft goal for Ottawa there.

What? It doesn't sound like you're too aware to Colorado's issues over the past few seasons.

There is simply no defensive structure and it's hard to fathom them becoming better next year in this system as there has been zero improvement.
But if you keep changing coaches you tell the coach-killing wunderkinds that its ok to freewheel and not listen to the coach.

Obviously there's no buy-in with this group for Eakins but why would they change for the next guy? They've already killed MacT, Quinn, Renney and Kruger.

Flames fans have seen this story before.

Roy has got pretty good results so far but IMO he's not going to have a long shelf life. He's scratched Parenteau a few games and today Stastny and Tangs got scratched. Playing games with veteran players is something that will get old pretty quickly and it's only a matter of time until he starts clashing with players.

Like leaving a lame duck coach in last season when they saw an opportunity for a potential franchise player draft pick, instead of making the change sooner and trying to turn it around?

Both Stastny and Tanguay were injured, that's why they're scratched. Parenteau is also just coming off an injury, don't think it has anything to do with mindgames, he's a definately players coach not like a Keenan type.

Last season yeah maybe, they probably should've fired him sooner. but the drafts where they got Duchene and Landeskog weren't tanked, they genuinely sucked. And still do, that D corpse is Edmonton like.

Are you sure? They both played last game and I couldn't find any injury statuses for either player. I have Stastny in a couple of pools so I checked but maybe not thoroughly enough?

Edit: Looks like Stastny has a twisted ankle and Tangs knee. I stand corrected.

You don't make the change sooner if you can't get the guy you want mid-season, especially if the season is a lost cause.

That team was awful last year and from the outside it seems they tanked, but maybe it was more that the team just quit on their coach.

Young guns like Duchene and O'Reilly have bought in to playing a 200-ft game this year which is more than you can say for the Oilers kids.

Yup, reading over the recap on NHL.com says they both were injured, maybe they got hurt in pratice? Not sure.

Quote from the recap:

" MacKinnon's play more than made up for the absence of forwards Paul Stastny (ankle) and Alex Tanguay (knee). Centering a line with Gabriel Landeskog and PA Parenteau, who was a healthy scratch the previous two games, MacKinnon completed the first three-point game of his NHL career. "

The Avs tanked last year without a doubt. That was one of the worst tank jobs in the history of the NHL. They wouldn't have added ROR to that roster if it wasn't for the Flames offering him a deal as they didn't want anything to do with helping that team win games. They rode that team with a head coach they knew lost the team the season before in hopes of getting MacKinnon and it worked. You only have to hear what Giguere said near the end of the season to know how bad things were in the locker room. Management knew that all season and did nothing about it.

Flames fans have seen this story before.
The 10,000 pound elephant in the room with the Oilers is that their top four players Hall, Eberle, RNH, Nail are just outright coach killers because they frankly don't want to work that hard when the Oilers don't have the puck. Whether its a coaching issue or a personal integrity issue is yet to be decided. The smart move would be to break up that core, move one of those big four out and shake up the culture of that team.

However one of those big four getting moved might be perceived as a reward and the rest would bottom out just to force a trade.

Hall has some nice effort in spurts but when he gets frustrated he doesn't work harder, he pouts on the ice.

The player talent of those 4 is nice but too similar, the leadership is lacking and when they interviewed these players at the drafts they were too fixated on their toe dragging skills and didn't dig deep enough into their heart and leadership.

I think Eakin's is in over his head with this team, but you can't keep rewarding those players by firing coaches when they give up. I don't believe Scotty Bowman could wring any bigger effort out of them.

I've said it repeatedly, Edmonton expected this to be their shiny final product of their 3rd rebuild in a row. Their salary structure, their free agency mess that's upcoming points to this team being it.

With the rotten culture in that dressing room and in that whole organization, I wouldn't be surprised if Lowe and Mac-T come out at the end of the year and state that they're going to continue to rebuild for the next few years.

Its a joke, if Oiler fans aren't embarressed enough they should demand that the players play a game in their practice jersey's because the players certainly haven't earned the right to wear for real NHL silks.

There are a lot of problems with that organization, but all of the blame can't fall on the GM's and Presidents and Coaches, it has to fall on the players in that core and their never say try attitude.

Today's game was similar to the game against the Sharks, where the team basically abandoned their goalie. But in this case they didn't get the amazing goaltending performance.

If I was Scriven's I'd be going into that dressing room and losing my mind after two dud performances by the team in front of him. But the reaction by the players would be to heartlessly quit on their goalie.

there's nearly nothing up there for Oiler fans to be excited about.

The Kings are unable to score as they lost 2-0 to the Flyers. The offense is there as they out shot the Flyers 35-13. It was Mason who won the game for the Flyers.

The Avalanche smothered the Sabres 7-1. The win puts Colorado just four points back of the Blackhawks for first place in the Central Division and second place in the western conference and two points behind the second place Blues in the division.

The Kings remind me of the 2006 Flames under Sutter. That grinding close to the vest style of play takes it's toll and players are gripping their sticks. Still could be dangerous if they make the playoffs but they need to open up things a little.

Oilers fans were about 8 years too late realizing that Kevin Lowe needed to go.

It'll probably take them another 8 years to realize that Hall, RNH and Eberle are also problems. The kool-aid flows strong with them still. They're the saviours after all and every Oiler fan has one of their jerseys.

The stinkin' Leafs tie the game at 2-2 with a pair of goals in 98 seconds.

Kadri just threw Ceci into the boards head first and assisted on the tying goal... It was Alfredsson-esque

Kadri with another questionable hit. Leads to the tying goal, Leafs get away with so much it's pathetic.
