Default January 31: Emile Poirier and a bunch of NHL teams you don't care about

Gatineau vs. Drummondville on Sportsnet starting now. Rare chance to see Poirier.

Poirier is #27 for Gatineau. Ryan Culkin is #7 for Drummondville.

WHL streams games, iirc ($). You could see if the QJMHL website does as well. Not free though.

And heck of a start. A Russian kid took a Rock'em Sock'em II type hit behind the net and leads to a major brawl.

Poirier nearly took the guys head off with that shot.. but evidently it went off his stick and in the net... but disallowed on a high stick... under review.

Nice blast from Poirier goes in off his teammate...Under review.

That looks like a good goal to me, but what do I know?

...No goal call stands.

That's kind of an odd rule ... the guy didn't intend to tip it.. if it had gone off his shoulder it would have counted.

Yeah, I always thought it was like the kicked-in or punched-in rule where there had to be intention to direct the puck into the net. Guess not.

Even though it didn't count, that was a hell of a blast from Poirier.

Lots of penalties so far.

GOAL! Drummondville 1-0.

Looks like a Culkin assist.

...and another. 2-0. Two assists for Culkin. He's a good PP QB.

1-1 Between the Blues and Canes.

Also, if you're buying Sports Select tomorrow, bet against Tampa Bay. Both of their goalies were injured last night. They are going to be a mess.

Was that hit really a hit to the head? Looked like he just ran over the guy..

I don't think he hit the head at all, but the OHL and QMJHL call hits like that very liberally. It's partially why some players (Yakupov, Hall) come out of those leagues with major problems keeping their heads up in their first couple years as pros. They expect the rules will protect them.

Poirier is a shooter... very aggresive on the PP. One thing I don't like is there's a few times where he standing straight up not moving.

Poirier is all over the ice. Great wheels.

I'm also really impressed with Culkin so far.

lol. I think the second linesman must have been chatting up a girl in the crowd or something. He was nowhere to be found when the first linesman tried to break up that fight.

Does Culkin play another year of junior or do you think he goes to the Heat next year?

He seems to be always looking to get into that shooting lane. He and Monahan might mesh well with a solid playmaking right wing.

He should have thrown a phone receiver over the glass for her. That would've been funny.
