Yup, I remember that exact interview.
I was pretty green to the business side of the NHL at that time, so I didn't really know what he was ticked off about.

Unpopular Opinion Alert: So when do we put the Erixon hate to bed? Who cares what he does now, especially if we like the Horak/Granlund/Wotherspoon return. I would get it if Erixon really was a first line all-star, but it isn't looking that way now, so good riddance.

When he gives up and leaves the NHL for good, head hung in shame, and his heart full of regrets and what-ifs.

We put it to bed when the Germans declare that the word schadenfreude is removed from all utility. Until then...

I am going against the grain...but other than potentially Wotherspoon Erixon would still serve the Flames better now and going forward as a player.
Horak - decent but I dont think hell ever amount to something useful for the Flames. Not good enough for top 6 and not big enough or gritty for bottom 6. Eventually hell be included in a package deal or goes back to Europe.
Grandlund - same as Horak. Top 6 winger or nothing. With Gadreau, Beasrtschi, Klimchuk, Poirer and a anyone we draft next year+....I see him having a hard time cracking the Flames.
Wotherspoon - looks like a player and will be solid for the blueline.

He is playing great in the AHL and will be an NHLer one day soon.
He may be a top 3-4 guy or a 5-7th guy, I don't know but I'm sure he'll make it.
The only positive out of it is I doubt his ceiling is a top pairing d-man and we may have gotten a top 4 + guy and then some in Wotherspoon and Horak and Granlund.
I think Wotherspoon is similar in his potential to Erixon so the deal is already a win in my book cause we may also get a top 9 forward or two out of it.
Toss in Erixon's entitled attitude, which is no longer the type of mentality the Flames will tolerate, its a big win.
But NYR won in that deal too by getting Nash.
CLB has a deep d core and should probably trade someone to give Erixon the shot he deserves.
I'd take him back if his attitude has changed. Maybe he learned something out of this and would want to come back to the team that initially invested in him, he would certainly get ice time. I'm sure he is better option than Butler and/or O'Brien.

Did ricardo create a second account?

Keep in mind that this wasn't a trade Feaster wanted to make. He offered Erixon the maximum contract allowed and he still turned us down. Full props for getting the return he did though.

I honestly would still like if we could get Tom back in our system. I think he's still a decent "prospect" and he could probably be had for a decent price. I'd love if we could get him in part of a package from the BJ's for someone like Cammy, Stempniak or someone else. I think we should target the BJ's because they're moving forward in their rebuild and on the upswing.

I honestly think this whole process has had to be a bit humbling to him. The kid does have tallent, he did screw us over even though we did well in the deal, but I think you have to be able to put crap like that behind you to make the team better long term. I would take Tom over Butler just to see if he can show what made him the player we thought he was.

Why would you want to acquire a player that clearly did not want to play here? That has disaster written all over it. There are other young D men we can target who have not spit on the organization that drafted him.

I like booing him as much as the next guy but it'd get old if we did it every home game.

He's soft and has self-entitlement issues. He's also dumb because if he would have stuck with the Flames he would have likely played more games in the NHL than he has to date. No thanks.

Can you imagine him paired with Butler. That could break the Dome's record for loudness and it would be all boos.

I don't. The little punk got exactly what he deserved. He thought he was good enough at 20 to cherry pick and got punished for it. Karma at its finest. The funny thing is he'd probably have 150+ NHL games under his belt by now if he had stayed a Flame.

Id take Erixon back. Hed easily be our #1D prospect and be a solid addition moving forward. To me Erixon has the potential to be a Toni Lydman type D in his prime.
