Unlocked american phones in Canada

My mom is looking at buying an unlocked moto x while in the US with the intention of using it in Canada (Telus, I think, maybe Rogers). Can she buy any of the carrier versions, or are there bands that she'd be missing? How about CDMA (Verizon/Sprint) vs GSM (t-mobile/ATT)?

Go with GSM. Not only do all carriers use it (Rogers never had CDMA), but if it's an unlocked GSM phone it's just a matter of putting in a SIM card.

Also, any new coverage being offered is GSM. CDMA will go the way that analog went at some point this decade. (At least in Canada.)

Thanks. I guess that the Canadian carriers provide coverage for both? No one is like say Verizon where all voice is cdma?

As far as lte bands? I know the t mobile phones support some bands that att doesn't. Any idea how that might come into play?

If I'm not mistaken, T-mobile is on AWS so they're compatible with Wind.
