Best actor to NOT have won an academy award

so with the recent influx of hollywood blockbusters, MI:3 and Da Vinci Code, ive been thinking alot about those silly awards they call the 'oscars' and who is the guy/girl out there who has been the most deserving but hasnt won it yet!
And in my estimation i can think of two people. Johnny Depp and Edward Norton, the former for fear and loathing or edward scissorhands or blow, the list goes on, and the latter for fight club,

when i think of clowns out there like gwyneth paltrow, and kim basinger who have won it i cant beleive that guys like johnny depp or edward, or even ralf fiennes, or liam neeson etc.. havent won it

i also dont think comedic actors get enough credit for what they do, i think its a lot harder to make an entire theatre laugh than make one tear up( ala Jim Carrey, Will Ferrel, Vince Vaughn, Mike Myers...guys are comedis genius')

haha...ok...but honestly...i guess i just think about silly stuff like this too much, and that more often than not it goes to the most "appropriate" person rather than the most deserving

I agree with the Edward Norton selection however If he should of won any award it was for his work in American History X, brilliant film and character. |

Did Bradd Pitt ever get nominated? I thought he should have won something for both Seven and 12 Monkeys.

Didn't Kim Bassinger win for L.A. Confidential? If so then I don't see the problem with it. While I liked this year's BP nominees I didn't think any of them were particularly spectacular and thought Crash was the weakest of the bunch.

he got nominated for seven monkeys, but other than that, no appreciation.

wouldnt it **** you off, if you were a guy like brad/tom/johnny/edward who have been in the movie industry for ages and then a guy like jamie foxx rolls in from in living colour and pulls off one bad ass performance in a movie like ray, where his character is based on an actual person so he gets the ultimate advantage as an actor to see what his character is supposed to look lie, and wins it all as best actor! another example is cuba gooding junior! apart from his little break dance routine on the stage... jerry maguire was the last thing that the guy came out with that was worth watching, while edward norton has repeatedly come out with incredible performances, primal fear, american history x, fight club...brad pitt in fight club, seven, 12 monkeys. the system seems flawed

Samuel L. Jackson as Jules Winfield in Pulp Fiction was an outstanding performance and he never won. I dont think he has ever won, so he would be my choice.

Not his best performance IMO, shawshank was incredible, million dollar baby his role was simple and very one dimensional...another case of "well i guess he should win won at some point, may as well give it to him now"

please don't take this the wrong way...but the recent winners of academy awards for actors have been african american, denzel washington for training day, halle berry, jamie foxx, morgan freeman...is this an attempt for the academy to clean up its image and make up for all those other years when they completely ignored their performances?

What about Alan Rickman? Has he ever won an academy award? I think he is a highly underappreciated actor, same with Christian Bale.
