To me, of the 4 options above, the one that makes the most sense to me is the west village. The area around there is definitely in need of revitalization and could be an option for other venues to be built around the rink. Additionally, the thru traffic there is the best other than at the big 4 site.

It has definitely been kept under wraps so far but I do think the flames will want the parking revenue or at least a good part of it this time around.

As they say, build it and they will come, look where McMahon is.

FYP. I'm pretty sure getting this nonsense fixed should go in the "pro" column.

It's a pro in that the work gets done. It's a con in that it's an added (costly) expense.

I know that if the West Village is the preferred location, there is a re-alignment plan for Bow Trail which would make A LOT more sense.

Relative to where each CP poster lives will definitely influence where the new arena should go. At least I think it would be interesting to see the correlation between where someone lives to where they think the new arena should be built.

It would make sense to move both directions of Bow Trail immediately beside the CPR tracks. The tracks are already a barrier to movement, and moving the road right beside them would consolidate the barriers.

Whatever would be built then would have direct access to the riverfront, would could end up being a very nice feature.

Anywhere relatively central would be great.

Biggest plus for me would be direct access to an LRT... none of crap we have right now where we have to walk 10 minutes just to get to the train station.

I believe that would be the plan. The westbound lanes would be aligned with the eastbound lanes tight against the tracks.

"Con: May require reconstruction of Bow Trail & Bow/Crow interchange & Bow/14th interchange"

i think anyone who has to drive in that mess on a daily basis would say this would be a pro ;-)

My vote is for West Village, especially if its an arena, stadium combo. That would be amazing.

I think we should have a poll based on You Need a Thneed's pro/con list.

North Stampede would be my vote.
- In the long term it will have the most density around it.
- Ability to have the LRT right into it.
- Walkable from City Hall station of the 7th ave line.
- Parkade across the tracks on 9th.
- Pre and post game beers at the Eddy, plus good Blues music for the down seasons.
- Close to the busy end of Stephen Ave, Inglewood, Stampede Trail, and not that far from the east end of 17th (which will redevelop way before 14th street)
- Next to stampede so it can be used for the big Stampede concerts (if they tear down the Saddledome)

Whenever I hear of an arena/stadium combo I get nightmares about the Ottawa Civic Centre (Where the 67s play/Senators played when they came into the NHL). The one side is a normal sized arena and the side under the football seating is like 10 rows total. Its under construction now for the renovations for the CFL team so perhaps it will change.. but it is a disaster.

It need not be so tight together.

A little timeline on this so called project. Seems as though plans have been reset a number of times probably due to an assumption that cash would come from somewhere and clearly isn't, the purchase of the Stamps, and Stampede plans. I honestly don't think that they are any further ahead than they were in 2009.

Two sites, one site, three sites, downtown site, Stampede grounds, Stampede area, considering other locations...

Talked to the City, haven't talked to the City.

Arena concepts created, RFPs coming out, not ready to present their case.

Going on 9 years of this.

Flames President & CEO Ken King said that the team “has been in discussion with several stakeholders for a year, including” the city of Calgary, the Stampede and the province of Alberta.

King explained the Flames aren’t quite ready to present their case for a new arena, but hope to access public support — be it infrastructure, direct funding or some other form — when the time comes.

Honestly given the flood/renovations at the dome I fully expect another 5 years of beating around the bush & run around on the announcement. The Flames are content to sit on their hands and let the Oiler's play out their side show first.

After having two big shows compromised by our crappy roof (NIN/Metallica) I can't wait for the new arena to be built. The dome served well over the years, but it's simply becoming too dated for it's own good.

I hope the delay for the project isnt so that the Flames can also budget in a Football stadium for the Stamps. In reality, for the amount of games the Stamps play, there is no need for a new stadium, especially at taxpayers cost(if that is the plan). The Flames bring much more revenue to the city and an NHL arena will still be able to accomadate other entertainment options.

Unless the football stadium will have more than one entertainment option(Stamps) there is no reason for it, eventhough McMahon is a dump. I have no qualms with some tax dollars going to the new arena as the building will benefit not just the Flames games, buy many other things. A definitive football only stadium for the CFL(stamps) is waste. If the flames want to ante up for all the costs for a CFL stadium, sure, if not, then dont build it.
