Also noticed they are the group that did the re-design/expansion for Molson Stadium in Montreal, so they have some experience with a CFL stadium too.

The flood definitely played a role in cooling off the new facility talk but I imagine a location has to be nailed down before they announce anything.

I like the Saddledome too, but it's the second oldest build in the league and it's showing its age. Our concourse sucks, bathrooms are a problem, and I would assume, things are falling into disrepair. I'm sure the players would love new locker rooms, and of course ownership wants to use new boxes, new restaurants and lounges to increase revenue.

I guess it's fine in that it serves it's purpose still, but as fans we're missing out on a lot of stuff that has been standard most places in the league for a while, and ownership is losing out on a lot of opportunities that owners in other cities have had for a while.

Not only has the sparse news spanned 60 pages (depending on your settings kids) of disappointment but the one flickering candlelight that dimly sways in the darkness was lit by the ####ing Discovery Channel and not even by the Flames. Hey Flames, in this season of no-hope it would be great if you'd open your Area 51 plans and let the fans know, hell even just season ticket holders who are certainly facing a pending surge in price with a new stadium- wtf is going on.

It would be sweet if the mods could add a counting clock to the side of this site to keep reminding all Flames staff the insanely long wait this base has waited for any news on this thing.

Almost to the point now where it could be considered canceled.
Well, things like this do often get delayed multiple times. But it's also quite possible this summers flood slowed things down too. They had to invest a lot of money into the Dome they weren't planning to. I wouldn't be surprised or upset if they wanted to wait a few extra years now because of that.

Puke.

Also Brian Burke, at a breakfast seminar, said that without a brand new building/ practice faculty that it will be hard to recruit free agents to calgary.

I'm not an NFL guy...(yes I know, probably the only guy in the world, right?)

...but yes, economically and from the perspective of fanbase, it would be crazy...

And as terribly inadequate as it is, Calgary should at least get an MLS club.

It's no Barclays, but it's better than nothing.

I think that a hockey/football combo is a good possibility, especially considering that the Flames are becoming somewhat of a "sports entertainment" business. They're majority owners of the Stamps.

As for the NFL coming to Calgary - not in our lifetimes. And I'm OK with that. Maybe a pre-season game to break in the new stadium, but I can't see a franchise ever coming to Calgary. We're just too small of a market for the NFL.

The MLS is coming along nicely as a league, and I'd love to see a team here. The problem is, Calgary is a graveyard for professional soccer, and even the talk last year of a NASL team starting up here (an important first step) is doomed from the start because of inadequate venues. Playing at McMahon would kill it before it begins.

There are a lot of soccer fans in Calgary, but the culture of professional soccer in this city is horrible. Failure after failure. Unfortunately, if I'm the MLS, I wouldn't want to be anywhere close to Calgary until it can prove it can support a small professional (NASL) club first. I could see the Flames eventually getting involved in soccer as part of their sports business, but I think that we're still a long way off.

That's still slightly on-topic, right? An imaginary team that might play in a stadium that might be attached to an arena that might be getting built someday?

It's probably just a conceptual rendering of what things could be, not the actual design. Who knows who put it together.

^^^ I actually think it may have been from a proposal. Though as a few have mentioned, doesn't mean the Flames accepted it, or that it was even a SERIOUS proposal. I guess that's kinda what your getting at too, now that I reread it. What the high end, or some of the bigger ideas could have been if the Flames wanted to go in that direction.

RFP isn't out yet. There's stuff going on behind the scenes at the moment, but there has been no formal 'bid' stage yet. Stay tuned.
