Breen has been down in Abbotsford for almost a full month since he was last sent down and has played 10 games for the Heat in January.
Based on what PMM posted in the Heat thread, he has been playing well down there. So, now they can give him a look after getting back to game speed.
He's still young and an RFA at the end of the season, so they can control his rights for another couple of seasons if they want to, but they need to figure out if it's worth holding on to him. This recall is his chance to show that he has an NHL future.
Let's not forget that Giordano looked pretty bad during his first recall.

Yeah, you have to show some patience with young defencemen. The guy was coming off a serious injury with little ice time to get in the flow. He deserves this chance and I wish him good luck.

Wow, that is just not true. Good prospects who are 6'7 and are great in the minors don't clear waivers.
He is a below average prospect playing ok in the AHL. No need to exaggerate.

This is good news...moving out a player with no future on the team to give a young, expiring contract one last chance to earn an extension...this is nice to see...lets hope Breen makes a strong case to stick around.

Breen recalled.
One thing can be said about Breen. The Flames will have given him multiple chances to prove he belongs in the NHL.

I still think they screwed up with Ramholt. He may not have ever been any good but the way Sutter treated him, it was guaranteed.

Ramholt was given another chance with another two organizations... he didn't do anything there either.

After Sutter ruined him, yeah.

Some would say he ruined his own development by not staying in the CHL and going back to Switzerland against the Flames wishes.

Yeah, that wasn't smart but IIC he was playing well in the A and deserved the call up. After his single shift here, and went down he wasn't the same player.

I'm thinking that they may have had something going on but it fell through.

I assume we'll see either Street or Jones on waivers tomorrow if Cammalleri is ready to return.

Interesting point from Burke and the #Flames behind-the-scenes culture: "We work hard. And that’s not just the games people see."

SOB seems like a guy who might not give 110% in practice.
Presumably, they kept Breen up for so long earlier in the season because they liked how he was working outside of the games. I hope he seizes this opportunity. It would be nice to have a 6'7" beast on the blue line.

I don't see how this could be a bad thing. I'd rather give Breenasaurus another chance than retain still-clad-in-Canucks-stench O'Brien. He was my least favourite facet of that trade by a mile and I thus like this team a little more today than I did yesterday with him off of it.
If he's been as solid as some of our resident Heat experts attest, then I think it's worth it to give him a solid stretch of games. Very little to lose at this point, and it seems like Admiral Truculence agrees.

Because it took a few hours to announce a recall? Unless it's a big name prospect recalls aren't always announced.
It was reported by Sureloss that Breen left with his equipment after the Heat game last night.
It was reported by the Calgary media that SOB's gear was gone and nameplate down yesterday.
Seems like everything lined up to a demotion/recall yesterday. The waiting for an announcement as a sign of anything is nothing more than baseless fan speculation.

Well this is what Sureloss reported.

Somewhat interesting is that Breen himself said he had no idea what was going on.
May have been trying to be coy, or perhaps something bigger in the works.

Since Breen didn't seem to know what was happening either, and his recall wasn't announced until this morning, it was worth a little speculating.

Well it's not a player's job to announce his call-up.
This seems like a whole lot of people overthinking things, when the situation was pretty cut and dry.

There's a difference between announcing and not knowing. This is a hockey forum ... speculation and overthinking everything is pretty much what it's about.
