that sounds too logical and I don't think too many team blow it up after missing the playoffs for just one season.
there are teams who could have done that but they felt they were still competitive. Look at the Avs or Flyers or the Lightning.

Pretty easy to hate St. Louis actually. Should have played better to make a dumb GM think twice about buying him out.

The Canucks have a grand total of one more playoff win than the Flames over the past two seasons. They have looked way better than they actually are because they feasted off a very poor Northwest division for a number of years. They are slightly better than the '09 Flames, but they will be one and done in the playoffs again this year.

After further thought and talking with his family, Vinny Prospal has informed Canucks that he's retiring and won't be joining Utica on PTO.

Not really. I've turned down hotter Canucks for less.

I like that Prospal would rather retire than join the Canucks.

I imagine that after Bieksa, Burrows, and Kesler rubbed off on him he figured playing with some of the biggest a-holes in the league wasn't worth the paycheck.

It also deserves mention that the Flames team of 2007-2008 went 7 games vs San Jose and the 08/09 team was severely depleted and still took the series vs Chicago to 6 games.
I really wish Darryl had put Regehr on IR that season. Forced Keenan to ice 16 skaters for multiple games, violating the CBA. Calgary had more wins than Vancouver did, yet didn't win the division due to loser points.

I can think of a game 6 double overtime reason.
