Like Burke said in that other thread you have to go for it and if you think a guy can be a starter a 2nd round pick is a small price. Hindsight is 20/20 of course and we can see Ramo is probably better suited for a backup but I don't see that as a disaster or anything and Bourque was becoming a cancer that the team needed to address and if Cammalleri fetches a 1st round pick it easily cancels out the 2nd given up in that deal.
Pitts trades #28th overall pick (2014) to Calgary
Calgary trades #36th overall pick (2014) to MTL

8 spots is 8 spots. But yes, losing that 2nd rounder was a disaster.

Is it more likely that ramo or fucale become an nhl starter?

Fucale just became the fastest qmjhl goalie to reach 100 wins...

He also has a .906 SV% is plays on a very good team.

How many goalies that post such poor numbers in the CHL go on to become NHL goalies in any capacity?

Patrick Roy.

However, I think the Flames would have drafted Petan in that spot, given that he was the only other one of the 4 players invited to that private workout session (they drafted the other 3).

Can't really compare numbers from 20+ years ago.

Of course you can. As long as you compare them with other goalies from 20 years ago.

I mean you literally can't since the CHL didn't keep track of SV% at that time.

All you have is GAA and Roy played for a terrible junior team.

Well there are guys who are old enough to remember he wasn't that great in the CHL and his NHL career was a surprise.

Edit: And besides, your original question was "How many goalies that post such poor numbers in the CHL go on to become NHL goalies in any capacity?"

Don't widen the goal posts.

That's fair. Of course Ramo fled to the KHL after three seasons of sub par NHL play and has close to league worst NHL stats in his return. I don't know what the success rate would be for a player like that to find success as an NHL goalie.

Regardless, it isn't the deal that broke the back of the Flames. We don't even know if a second was truly given up for Ramo. It was a multi-player deal with lots of parts and Feaster just blabs. The trade was about getting away from a player that refused to play hard and whose contract was becoming a detriment and replacing him with a better top 6 forward. The trade was a win so I am not sure why anyone would want to pick apart the individual pieces.

As for the thread topic, I could see them extending Cammalleri and trading Hudler. They want to keep the positive environment they have in the room as it is the right environment to have on a rebuilding team. Cammy (and Stajan) are parts of that and you need these players to shelter your youth anyway. Hudler might also bring back a richer return.

As long as they don't give Cammalleri a ridiculous contract and they trade Hudler instead (we need to trade one or the other) than I am okay with it.

Jonathan Bernier is another goalie from the Q who you will find comparable numbers for.

That seems to be a decent comparable.

Fucale is right in line statistically with Jake Allen and Jonathan Bernier.

You don't have to go back to Roy.

I was surprised when I heard about Stajan re-signing. Was thinking Cammy would be a great fit here if he wanted to stay and help with the rebuild. But now that we've signed Stajan, I'm surprised to hear we might sign Cammy as well. I do think we need to retool and rebuild, but I'm thinking we need to keep some vets around as long as they want to be here and aren't going to command a huge salary to do so.

I couldn't even find him in the member list ... unless he has a dot in his name? I can't recall.

Sad times.

Well, this is a rebuild. You've got to expect to see some vets moved out and some newer posters moved in. Fortunately some of the new guys have potential, but only time will tell if we've got a future TTC, MMF, or Bertuzzied on our hands.

That's a combined 75496 posts ... that's a lot of production to ask from the rookies!

Hopefully we get a top pick in the 2014 Forum Draft.
