This morning I drove to the airport and back and the lights are either not on or very faint. I had trouble seeing exit signs and lanes markings on Memorial and Deerfoot. Then driving back I passed police cars and ambulances as there was a serious 2 car accident. I drove quite carefully, barely 100 in the right lane.

Is it a 4:30am thing? A Saturday morning thing?

It was really dark!
Drove to CrossIron Mills tonight and between Memorial and 64 Ave I'd say up to 60, maybe 70 percent of the streetlights were off. Deerfoot is normally bad for burnt out lights but I don't think I've ever seen it this bad. The Airport Trial exit northbound and the CrossIron Mills exit both directions had a bunch out.
Bunk is right, Carmacks handles this maintnence, not the city. The issue is Carmacks contract is up with the AB Gov this year and it's pretty clear they don't want to renew.

It was delicious. I don't know his worship has had the Olive Chicken! I'll have to take him there.

Yup. I don't go up there very often so when I went to the airport yesterday, I nearly missed the Airport Trail exit because it was pitch black.

What I think you'd see a lot of is people parking at the station, taking the train to the bar, taking the train back to the station and then driving the rest of the way home drunk where they are less likely to get stopped by the police.
I personally would much rather spend $3 to get most of the way home and add a $10 cab ride at the end than spend near $50 to cab it the whole way. In fact I have done this.

But that's just me, I'm cheap.

Googling some of these folks (linkedin), looks like they are still employed by the city.

So have criminal charges been laid?

It doesn't say in the article, but I can't see why the victim would not move froward with charges.

Snow removal happened on my street yesterday, and is happening on streets around my house today.

I know little to nothing about this case beyond what's been talked about in the media.

The City (and its contractors) are working constantly until all the streets have been addressed to a satisfactory level. It takes time to physically remove snow so some areas will take longer to get to than others. We had unusually high amounts of snow and temperature conditions that were also challenging. City's spending $6.7 million to improve the situation.

Bunk, the map only shows roads that are scheduled to be cleared in dashed line. Is there any way of telling when the road is scheduled to be cleared?

P.S.I just figured it out. Once you zoom in enough onto the street name it shows the pop-up window with the Scheduled date status. My street shows last week, so they are behind, I guess.

On our street, the contractor put up temporary no parking signs on Sunday morning, and did the work yesterday.

I only caught a little bit of the news, but why is Mayor Nenshi currently negotiating with Davros? The man is evil personified.

It's just a matter of time until Calgary is overrun with Daleks.

The guys on my street put up no signs and worked until 2am to finish it up. Was a little crazy to hear them going that late and be woken up once but great when I went out that morning to see it all cleared.

I assume this a nerdy reference. It's lost on me - I'm far too cool.

Kind of a weird question: when does the city refill the bins of sand/salt mixture at the various fire halls? The (lone?) fire hall in the NE that has the bin seems to run out really quickly, probably made worse over the last few weeks with all the snow melting and refreezing.
