Unless Bob McKenzie or Elliotte Friedman have any kind of legitimate conversation discussing it then I'm not going to buy it....especially if it comes from Sportsnet "insiders".

IIRC Heatley was signed by Atlanta and than traded to Ottawa but I think that was with all parties aware of what was going on.

It was Hossa who had just signed and then was traded for Heatley. (Edit2: Ottawa signed Hossa to avoid the arbitration hearing and an hour later shipped him off to Atlanta for the RFA Heatley. Heatley near immediately signed his contract with Ottawa.)
---
Russell was absolutely a sign and trade, but a different circumstance and a rarity.

Not sure what you mean here. Kris Russell was definitely a sign and trade this summer. The Blues signed him and immediately dealt to the Flames. That's a sign and trade.

I hope this is true. Cammy has stepped up as a leader for the kids and been a big part of that dressing room. I'm not sure why he wouldn't want to go cup chasing at this stage of his career, but I'd welcome here back with open arms.

Was misinformed, so Russell signed a one year deal?

Instead of being ridiculously arrogant about it why don't you explain to the guy you're quoting why you think he's incorrect.

Then clearly I'm confused on the terminology? Blues signed Russell to a contract, then traded him to the Flames the same day for a 5th. What am I missing?

Its a sign and trade, but there were other factors involved. Russel was a RFA with arbitration rights. The Flames wanted nothing to do with arbitration, so they made sure Russell signed with St. Louis before he was traded. Cammi is not RFA, nor does he have arbitration rights. There is no chance that Cammi does a sign and trade, nor do i think there is a chance in hell he signs a one year extension.

The one-year deal was last summer, which expires this year. There hasn't been any word on the new contract yet.

I like Roger Millions, good host, good interview but he's never been much of an insider. Ditto for the Edmonton guys. Hell, Roger had Cammaleri asking for a trade in the summer.
|
There's no telling if both are indeed true. The Flames could both be talking extension AND trade. If one doesn't work out, you want to have an option that's not losing the player for nothing as a UFA.

You are right. I made a mistake, almost like relying on EKLUND and basing opinions from him as fact.
My apologies.

Don't know what that middle part was about, unless you've confused me with someone else. Not an Eklund follower here.

Except for the ROR gaff you made, based on your belief in him.
