It does sound like he was jaywalking, but he sounds like he was injured when he wouldn't stay around for a ticket and after he pushed a cop. I'm sure there is more to it, but to say cops beat a senior for jaywalking is misleading.
Well I did use a question mark .

I know in Florida he would have been shot for his effrontery, however, in NYC a beating is deemed sufficient.

Here in Canada we sometimes let them off with just a ticket, IF they can show a senior's card. But that's because of those namby-pamby, bleeding-heart liberals.

I know it shouldn't but BS like this really grinds my gears.

A PUBLIC SERVICE THAT AIMS TO END CRAPPY TOURIST PHOTOS
Two recent ad school grads do their part to end poorly composed photos with a street-level solution.

Are you sick of Instagram feeds full of boring, bad quality vacation pics? Did your best friend try to shoot the Brooklyn Bridge and up with nothing but East River? Miami Ad school grads Mimi Chan and Utsavi Jhaveri decided to do the tourists of New York and San Francisco a public service. They created a bright yellow stencil featuring the hashtag #no####typhotos and two feet. Then they painted their emblem onto the ground in the best possible location to get a shot that rocks. Some of their work has already been erased by the city authorities. But if you can think of a popular landmark in either NYC or San Fran, chances are the duo has been there, trying to save you (and your iPhone) a little embarrassment.
The perfect case of missing your audience completely & offering a solution that's looking for a problem. Ok sure, not everyone is a professional photographer, and hey, maybe a pointer or two would improve some one's vacation photos by a factor of 10. But when you open with "stop taking ####y photos guys!" it comes off as elitist.

Even the "stand here and click!" is pretty piss poor advice, it offers no real tips about composition, framing, exposure or any real advice like where to place your subject (aka: your family). It's nothing more than an empty chest thumping "If you stand here, your instagram feed won't suck!" rhetoric.

employees-only web sites that give you dozens of pages of corporate propaganda but won't post the forms you need as an employee to do your job.

It GMG when someone sends out a huge group text with my number in it, and then for the next day or so I'm inundated with replies from everyone.

My sister-in-law just did this and my phone is going crazy with all the replies. Is there any way for me to opt-out of this or leave the 'conversation' on an iPhone? I've tried deleting the original text, but I'm still getting everyone's life story via individual texts?

My boss's way of thinking. We get a new system for a client as well as a high end video card. High end video card arrives first so he delivers it to the client to sit there (not sure when he did this, but it was there). New system comes in. He has me configure it, install default software, etc. and then take it to the client so it can be setup on the domain and the video card installed. Of course, video card doesn't fit properly today on site. So the whole system and video card needs to be brought back to the office to do the install here or work with another video card.

Why oh why are we installing hardware in a brand new system on site? I did everything else here, keep the video card here and let's install it, the drivers, etc. and THEN bring it to the client. I just don't get his line of thinking.

Same thing Friday too. I'm loading up two new systems for a client. Office still needs to be installed, and a few other small things and he says just bring them over to the client and finish it there. He hands me a USB stick with Office on it apparently. I get to the client, remove their old computers and put in the new ones. Get everything setup and Office is not on the USB stick and it's the end of the day. So I have to go early before they open this morning to install Office. Again, if everything was configured here and ready to go, no problems, wasted times or trips and we don't end up looking stupid to clients.

Sounds like you should have had another card in your wallet. It's called competence.

I agree, but the majority of people either order the same thing every time, or order something very common. I'd say less than 10% of guests even picks up the drink menu.

Same here. I have this habit of not wanting to inconvenience others. And my number 1 pet peeve of all time is standing in a line. Can't stand it. When I finally get to the front of that sob, I have all my cards ready to go. If it's an automated self checkout, I try to be halfway to the door before the machine even has a chance to say "thanks for shopping at xxxx"

How some people can stand fumbling around in their purses or wallets while people are waiting simply boggles me. Did you not realize you'd need some sort of payment while you were waiting in line? Why wait until the last second?

The new neighbour who keeps parking in the "no parking" zone across from my driveway (despite me asking them not to on multiple occasions), leaving very little room for me to get my vehicles out, particularly with snowbanks everywhere plus garbage and recycling bins on the street. Sooner or later I'll give up on trying to be a nice neighbour and start calling 311.

I don't know if that falls under 311, or the parking authority. But if you've asked them not to repeatedly, just call next time.

This is a good lesson on why you shouldn't talk to neighbours before calling 311 or the parking authority. Usually people who do ignorant things are too ignorant to care about your opinion. Best just to keep the conflict at arm's length and call the big guns right out of the gates. It gives you plausible deniability if they come sniffing around trying to find out who called on them. Now if you call they'll know it's you and they will probably want revenge.

Something similar should happen to the idiots who toss their cigarettes from car windows. They should be forced to eat a cigarette. Seriously, what the hell is difference between that and, well, tossing anything out of your car. Do people not think that's still littering?
