Default Lack of respect/civility on this board

Just wanted to say congrats to the posters who pushed my buddy Turned the Corner over the edge last night which resulted in getting him banned.

I find it odd that posters who question a guys sexuality/gender are the same ones reporting to the moderators saying they've been insulted and aggrieved when someone stands up to them. Go back and read the posts and ask yourself, how would you react in that situation?

God forbid that someone have a dissenting view about fighting and try to have a rational discussion. All it did was degenerate into name calling.

In a society where we are trying to address bullying, it seems that there are still some neanderthals that post here who are stuck in the dark ages.

So the bullies go on to live another day while we lose the contributions of a long time Flames fan. Way to go, bullies.

Doubt this thread lasts but there was only one person to blame last night and that was TTC.

Nobody baited him or pushed him over the edge. That was all on him.

People throw out the bully line on here way too much and this is an example where it wasn't close to what happened.

If anything the guy throwing out the profanity laced tirades and insults about people's mothers was the one doing the bullying.

He never once tried to have a rational disccussion about it at all.

Good Riddance.

Don't kid yourself moon there's a ton of vitriol and bullying that occurs on this board. It's like electronic high school sometimes.

edit: but TTC really blew a gasket last night and probably should have pushed away from the table.

Did you read the game thread last night? Guy flew right off the handle and was definitely the first one to start the name calling. It was tough to watch/read.

Adults who feel bullied because some loser living in their parents basements gives them a hard time on a message board regarding hockey related discussion. Lol

As someone who disagrees with people as much as anyone and takes as much flack for it as well I can't say I have seen anything close to bullying.

Feel free to point it out to me (whether here or in PM) but the times I have seen people whining about bullying haven't been close to it, including this situation.

Considering TTC still has his avatar means he probably won't be banned forever.

Well, I don't want to go combing thru posts but there's a lot of ganging up on people who dont share the same idea. Maybe bullying is the wrong word I dont know but, there's a mob mentality that very quickly can form in threads. Most of the time it's well earned but there's examples where it isn't.

Actually when I thought about it a really good example is the thread about communities and the best ones to live in for Calgary. One guy was saying that having a lake is normally or always better than one without a lake, and the guy was just being tarred and feathered for a perfectly reasonable stance to take.

That's a perfect example of where it wasn't bullying.

Sliver's position that having a lake is subjectively better was ridiculous and having that pointed out to him is not bullying at all. It wasn't even close to a reasonable stance to take.

Again I have been part of some of the biggest times of many people "ganging up" against my views and not once has it come close to bullying.

Your buddy TTC pushed himself over the edge, FFIV. He flipped out all on his own, and it isn't anyone else's fault for calling him on it. Perhaps instead of being an enabler of his actions, why don't you talk to him about not foaming at the mouth every time something happens that he disagrees with?

I agree maybe bullying is the wrong word (maybe) but it's still a mob mentality. Perhaps you have a thicker skin and can ignore people calling your views ridiculous (which you're football views are lol jk.. but seriously tho) but that doesn't mean everyone will roll with the punches as well.

And no his view about lakes weren't that far out of line. But we can agree to disagree there.

This board seems pretty tame to me. I say stupid/erroneous things all the time and the worst I've gotten back was that's a little silly or something like that. Last night seemed like an anomaly where a bunch of drunk people (including myself) were annoyed by one guy who wouldn't take a hint. There's having a dissenting opinion and then there's being a psychotic lunatic that can't even voice his dissenting opinion in a comprehensible manner. It's good to have a different opinion, it's bad to go off the deep end typing nonsense in a spurious rage. Even if you had the cure for cancer conversing in that manner would be annoying and confusing.

It's probably a good idea to avoid the Fire on the Ice portion of CP some nights, and last night was definitely one of those. No one was likely to produce much of value. Pretty predictable, really... TTC should've just closed the browser window.

I resent that remark. I've been posting on this board for four years and over time, it's become important to me. Lots of these guys are 'real life' friends too Newts, maybe you should try and be a bit more neighbourly?

Cpuck is moderated pretty closely compared to a lot of boards I read where it is basically a free for all. On this board you know someone can't go after you or they will get banned, so you are free to say what you want. If you don't like their response to your post, you put them on ignore and at that point you control the level of interaction you have with that person.

Pretty simple stuff, I have no idea what happened last night but it sounds like TTC should have been putting people on ignore if they were bothering him that much.

I liked his posts so that is too bad.

I also resent that remark as my parents basement has in floor heating and a hot tub.

If living here is losing, I don't want to be winning.
