The last thing you want from a development standpoint is to have Ortio or Gillies ( who I believe will sign after his Providence College season) in Calgary next season.

Let them develop and learn their craft.

Keep them both far far away from Calgary for a couple of seasons.

Not the place to be for promising young goalies.

so a day into this poll and Kris Russell is the only widely supported re-sign for Burke, which is ironic because the man is tiny.

No love at all for any of the core vet forwards, or Butler

Luke warm interest for tweeners Street and Jones.

Wonder how many of these guys can be flipped for picks?

I like Burke's plan of signing half our UFAs. With no immediate help from our prospects, going scorched earth would put us in the same rebuilding mode as our friends up north.

At least someone like 35 year old Brendan Morrow once was a leader and might be able to explain to the kids what it takes to be a winner in the NHL. The team might listen to him/ respect him unlike Stempniak who being forced into the leadership role called out the team for lack of effort and the next game got a beat down from Ference and then went 2 months without scoring.

There is no one on the current Flames roster that has gone through being a leader on a top team like Morrow.

Morrow is only making 1.5 this year in St.L so the 2.5 the Flames save by dumping Stempniak might be enough.
