In any other draft he would have been in the teens or 20s, but in '96 he was one of the top players.

Yeesh just looked up the 96' draft. Horrid. Chara in the 3rd was a huge steal.

I would take Phillips over him easily. I wouldn't say it is even close.
But I am not a fan of one dimensional players like Dumont who aren't that good at the one dimension. He was an okay scorer who offered very little at all outside of that.

The Stempniak-Backlund-Hudler line is so shifty tonight; good skating.

Yeah, everyone remembers Pronger and Stevens for their days in Hartford and Washington.

Both good defencemen but bad picks in hindsight. I'd never take a defenseman first overall.

Really?
If Steven Stamkos wasnt a generational talent, then one of Pietrangelo or Doughty would have been 1st overall picks.... just because the recent crop of 1st overalls have underperformed, saying you wouldnt take one EVER at #1 is nuts

Stajan looking pretty bad in the half period I've seen so far too. How was he in the first?

FYI, here's the post I was talking about in regards to the grammar:
