The pens have a few good young defensemen in their system I'd target and I'd go after a few wingers from the Sens. See what they want and make a deal soon!

We get it, everyone knows what kind of value he has. He's been in the league for long enough that every GM knows what he is, a streaky scorer
That's why we only had to swap an older injured Langkow straight up for him

Well Bouwmeester isn't around to bash anymore so Stempy is as good a target as anyone else.

Let's hope he is gone soon so that everyone can go back to discussing how awesome the Flames prospects are.

Hossa was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the trade deadline on February 26, 2008, along with Pascal Dupuis, in exchange for Colby Armstrong, Erik Christensen, prospect Angelo Esposito, and the Penguins' first-round pick in 2008 (Daultan Leveille)
|
We often look at trade deadline deals based on whether the rental worked out well or not, but this one was a definite win for the Pens just based on opening roster spots...1 grinder, 2 guys who haven't cracked the NHL, and a guy now playing in the K. Considering they have kept Dupuis, it might be one of the best rental trades ever!
Interesting nugget on Esposito:
Quote:
Despite his last name, famous in hockey circles, Esposito is not related to Hockey Hall of Famers Phil and Tony Esposito. He does, however, have uncles named Phil and Tony,[2] in addition to sharing Phil Esposito's jersey number 7 and February 20 birth date.[9]

Another interesting thing about Esposito:
0 goals 6 assists in 25 games in the Austrian league.
Once considered to be the 1st overall pick.

ah yes, the incredible Angelo Esposito ... the man who went from being a 1st round draft pick in the NHL to scoring zero - ZERO!!! - goals in 25 games in the Austrian league this season. Simply unbelievable.
EDIT: and of course sureLoss beats me, even when I'm writing about "my" league. Wow.

With all the Flames trade-able pieces having nursed injuries this year, I'm not sure how many phone calls they're getting.

Has to be some concern about Glencross stock if he keep having these injuries.

He wasn't going to be traded this season anyway.

Not just a first rounder, but at the beginning of the season the potential 1st overall pick IIRC? Any idea what happened to him to fall that far? Heart just wasn't in it like Daigle?

I want Beau Bennett (Shero says he"s available in the article) and I'll bet Burke does too. He's young, 6'2" with good skill on RW I believe.
So, let's balance out a deal where Flames get Bennett and a good D-prospect and Pens get Cammy or Glencross + (a good young asset that Burke doesn't want to keep).
Glencross + Brodie= Bennett + Pouliot ?? I dunno...
I am sure Glencross would waive his NTC to go to Pittsburgh. Burke could substitute one of Baertschi/Gaudreau (I assume Burke will only want 1 of these 2 LW'ers due to their size) for Brodie and get higher quality assets back.

A healthy Cammalleri would definitely nab us something useful coming the other way.
Hudler would definitely fetch something nice as well, but I am not too keen on seeing him traded.

I don't like giving up Brodie unless a proven NHL player is coming back. Bennett is not proven enough and Pouliot is still in junior.
Glencross to the Pens makes sense though. Cammy to Ottawa also makes sense as they chased him in 2009

Re-sign Russell and I don't think you are losing much to get a couple of blue chip prospects. That deal favours the Flames IMO.
But heck I'd be cool with that.

I don't agree that deal favors the flames significantly. Brodie >> Russell. Pouliot would be great and Bennett is nice but Brodie and Glencross are 2 of our best assets and I want RoR, Kane, or a player like that

Yikes, that is damningly bad. Actually, it's kinda pathetic. From NHL hotshot to hot garbage.

Bennett should have been included in the Iginla deal.
I'll never understand the logic of trading for 2 meh prospects instead of one better one.

Any interest in Cory Conacher? Was thinking he'd be an easy target with how poorly he's performed in Ottawa after having a good run in Tampa last year. Although he's probably too small to play in the west, so it might not make sense if they'd want a lot for him.

Jay Feaster would have loved to trade for him. No way Burke does though.
Not sure who Ottawa would move? Zack Smith? Cody Ceci? Pat Weircoch?
