Default The "Official" thread about "Ongoing" and "Official" Threads

Anyone else frustrated with all of these? There are legitimate stories that deserve threads specific to them, but instead they just get posted onto page 1347 of some "general ongoing everything" thread.

I can understand some of the general threads, such as Vegas Tips, Fitness/Nutrition, Restaurant Recommendations, etc.

But some of the others...

Deadly tornado somewhere? Report it somewhere in the 200 page "ongoing super mega weather thread".

10 shot and killed at a pre-school? Post it in the "ongoing US mass shooting thread".

Debris falls off downtown skyscraper and lands on people below? Stick it in the "ongoing stuff falling off buildings thread".

A couple pitbulls tear off a kids face? Post the news in the "ongoing dog attack mega thread"

It's getting incredibly frustrating, and I don't understand it. With the way these topics are trending, why don't the mods just create 3 threads for the entire forum. "Ongoing Everything Hockey Thread", "Ongoing Everything Off-Topic Thread", and an "Ongoing Everything Not Hockey Thread".

You seem to be under the false impression that the mods are the ones that are making the "ongoing" threads or that we're mandating their use once they've been created.

As you say it's a judgment thing, if you feel something is significant enough that it deserves its own thread then it might, start a new thread about it and see. Keeping in mind that different people will have different opinions about what deserves a thread and what doesn't.

That thread title seemed to be a joke to me.

However- yes; do not be afraid to make a new thread if something is news worthy. People have become so fearful of being called out for a fata that they don't want to create a new thread.

I don't mind all the mega threads. I follow the grind my gears thread every so often. The only ones that bother me are when you might actually miss some key news. The ongoing trade rumours thread is an example of this...
If they are just rumours with no credible source and don't affect the Flames I don't really care. If an actual trade happens I like to see a new thread regarding that and ususally there are.
If there are trade rumours regarding the Flames with credible sources I would like to see a new thread created because I would miss it because I never go to the ongoing trade rumour thread.
