How Chevy has a GM job is beyond me:
NHL GM record[edit]
Team Year Regular Season Post Season
Won Lost OT/SO Win % Finish Won Lost Result
WPG 2011-12 37 35 10 .514 4th in SE Division - - Failed to Qualify
WPG 2012-13 24 21 3 .533 2nd in SE Division - - Failed to Qualify
Total 61 56 13 .521 0 Division

He's done nothing, nothing to improve his team 3 years in. Of course sack the coach because he's an easy target. But the GM should have followed him out the door. Here's the link to his transactions during his tenure as Winnipeg GM:

The Flames already have a very good head coach.

Good my worry was that Edmonton would finally get a clue get rid of Eakins or demote him and bring in Maurice who's a very good coach.
Glad to see that's not happening.

I like Hartley but I think his days are numbered with Burke. If he makes it to next season I'll be surprised, but not disappointed.

Maurice is a decent choice.

Should have been fired after his first season. Guy was in over his head from day one as an NHL head coach.

I agree. I would have fired him after last season. He might be good AHL coach but he is not even close to being an average NHL coach.
So, Paul Maurice is back in the NHL. This is his 4th or 5th team now, right?

Jets season is already lost they waited way too long to make this move. Since the Jets returned Chevy has barely done anything. Signing the core he inherited and making minor trades.

Good move by the Jets. Hopefully, a fresh coach can motivate them to play beyond their capabilities and put some win streaks together. Their talent pool is decent, minus inconsistent goalies.
It's bad enough for the 'Peg fans to venture out into -40C cold to see their team lose at home. At least in Calgary, it's not as cold to see the Flames lose at home.

I used to think Maurice was okay but he really sounded like a dumbo in the television panel.

Be interesting to see how much ticket prices go up in Winnipeg next year. I believe some of the original commitments when the team entered in the league were 3 years.
With the cap going up it will next year and years ahead, the Jets are going to haven create a fair bit more internal revenue with that smaller building to keep up with the rest of the league salary wise.
The GM likely has his hands tied by that factor as well. That said, my guess is the Jets need to make the playoffs petty regularly and win a round or two, to have that playoff revenue required so he needs to find that formula with limited resources.

Fwiw Laviolette already coached the Islanders for a few years, so it's doubtful he would go back there.

I'm just glad they made this change today and not later this week. Now the new coach guaranteed win will be out of the way before they play the Flames on Thursday.
