PR people always write statements of apology, etc. for athletes. Hardly anything noteworthy to argue about.

It might be decent, but I think his writing is a little too good for that time frame speaking English (and I say that as a Canadian immigrant myself).
At the very least, it looks seriously edited for content...it's just a little too perfect of a response.

Because I don't think much of Jankowski and I think that Grigorenko has a ton of talent.

If we can acquire a player of his skill set without giving up too much, I think it is worth he risk. If he needs a Russian mentor we have Gio. I doubt he wrote the letter but he is probably fully aware of the contents.

lol, that's kind of stretching a season in the KHL to something else isn't it?

But Monahan would never be in this situation - that's pretty much the whole point.
The facebook comments are irrelevant anyway. What matters is actions. And he is not willing to do what the team thinks is best for him.
He was horrible at the WJC - whoever said they would rather have him than SReinhart... wow.

I drool at the thought of a Monahan/Grigo one-two punch at center. IMO both are in the same talent category. With Grigo having more elite skill. Monahan with the better all around game.

I'm not really getting at that. More that Monahan is a well-spoken 19 year old, if he had written something, anything doesn't have to be an apology or whatever, with that type of insight, would people question it?
Although I agree it is pretty obviously edited, but really who cares? All professional athletes or public figures will have any formal statement like that be combed through. Especially if it's not in their first language.

I wouldn't trade Backlund for Grigorenko. Not that I believe he's more valuable, but I'd much rather have a nice defensive player who bleeds for this team and city than some longshot.

IF Monahan wrote something well thought out in russian, i would question it.

And Reinharts done what exactly to warrant being better than this player? As far as it goes right now at this point, including the WJC, the only thing hes done differently was be born Canadian.
Grigo had 8 points in the WJC compared to only 5 for Sam. I don't know why others say he was horrible without saying Reinhart was as well.
Junior stats wise they are on par with each other but Sam has an extra season to pad those up.
So yes, when I said I'd rather Grigorenko than Sam Reinhart I meant it. Of course we will see in the next couple of seasons if I will be wrong but as it stands now, not much difference.

Maybe I'm being a homer but I still see a lot of growth possible for Backlund.

I think the rebuilding Flames need some raw talent and sometimes it is worth the risk. Much like Tyler Seguin to Dallas. He is only 19 and maybe the change makes him realize he still has to work hard. We do need more prospects to complement Monahan and the fact that he is a center with some size doesn't hurt. Burke may like his upside but Burke demands physical, committed players so not sure if this is something he would do.

Come on. Sam Reinhart is the projected 1st pick in this draft. He's 2 years younger than Grigorenko. How many points did MacKinnon get in the WJC last year?
Reinhart is literally better than Grigorenko at every facet of hockey. No mono excuse this time.
